"question: what was the smallest CV they made? i looked up one of the part #'s (craftsman) and it showed a 3.0? "

I don't think the smaller Poulans, like the 1.8, 2.0 had a counter vibe option. But, I could be wrong..

This chart from 1982 shows they do not, but who knows in later years.

Gregg,

usually poe-lin

Then if they don't start PDQ, it becomes pull-on preceded & followed
by some worse language.

How do you guys pronounce it??

"Poo-lon" or "Poe-lin" ????

I'm most definitely a "Poe-lin" guy myself. :)

Pole un

That's the way they said it on the little country radio station when I grew up so that's the way we've said it in this part of the country ever since.

"News brought to you by Caulk Hardware, your friendly neighborhood Poleun dealer. Stop by and pick one up today."

wow! judging by the posts here, i'm not the only one that has
Poulan saws procreating in the shed/basement/garage/shop!!

Picked up two countervibes today (didn't realize these has manual oilers...(automatic with manual override???)

question: what was the smallest CV they made? i looked up one of the part #'s (craftsman) and it showed a 3.0?

the other is a 3700 with orig bar.

I gotta Thank Joe outloud for stopping by with a couple gifts saturday!! thanks MAN! good guy, loves saws only a little less than I :poke: and has some cool DIFFERENT stuff!!

No problem:clap: I just finished a 3.7 Craftsman that cleaned up well. Youll see that soon. Can't beat the Poulans, in any color or re-badge.:greenchainsaw: I should have shown you more on my 3.7! Great auto oilers plus the manual overide. Just a well designed piece of equipment.

Well its official, my Dayton S25CVA destroyed my friends Stihl 191t this afternoon. Wasnt even that close.

He has a tree business and had a donation job to do at the legion today and asked me if I wanted the logs from it, so I said yeah and since its a dontation job to the legion I belong to also that I would help him with it.

Got a nice load of white Oak out of the deal. Took my PP475 also to get some time on it and he was surprised when it took his MS460 to school as well. LOL This 475 is really starting to run better with some more time on it.

Woodchuck John said it would and I believe him.

I know I should have taken the camera, but this was work not play this time.

I always enjoy stories like these. Its like David vs Goliath or Rocky vs Drago! I have that exact saw Mark. Its my only CVA S25, its a later model so it has the SS ign and really cant be beat. Great story:cheers: The PP475 is impressive as well

Mark, my S25 ran right with a MS200T. Now that 200 sound like a screaming banshee right before it hits the wood but it don't hold the rpm's like the little Poulan does.

This little 25CVA I am building right now should run quite a bit better than my old S25. I've done some work on the exaust port and also worked over the transfers. It should run pretty decent.

late model 3.7

Another CVA 3.7. Theres a reason I do so many of these saws. And its no secret. Thats a good and bad thing depending on how you look at it. This saw was pretty well taken care of. I gave it my usual going over and cleaning. Some fuel line, filters and a carb kit. Fired on the third pull, a couple slight adjustments and it runs perfect. Has the orig 18" banana on it. It also has a real chain! No lousy safety junk. I did a mild muffler mod on it. I drilled out the baffle a bit and cut the 2 exhaust ports open. There are 2 openings. One is about 1/2'' the other is about 1/4''. I made them into one opening with a pair of tin snips. Nothing fancy, but the saw sounds better.

The metal shaving's on the baffle are'nt going to look to good inside the motor Joe.

Naw, my first saw ever was a S25CVA and that was a long time ago, so I know first hand what they were and what they could do. All the bragging on these Stihl top handles? I don't buy into it at all. They ought to be ashamed if this is all the better they can do after all these years.

Yep free wheeling RPMS don't mean much do they? Cant wait to see yours in action.

Okay, guys....

I've started with "yellow fever" and time to get some "green fever"!

I am looking to get a 306a and 245a for a mini poulan collection. What do I need to look for in those used saw?

Mike

I guess you would look for the same thing as in any other saw, a good P/C to start with.

Anything else that could need fixed on them is not really a big deal.
