Its funny Bob, As many of those saws as I have, I never tried to replace one. I just swapped a good one from a donar saw. I would think it would work fine, if ya find the right size.

Gregg,

That's what I did as well. However at some point I'll run out of pumps and will need to replace the pickup line. Think I'll experiment with some tygon and see how it works or at least fits. I'll bring a piece of the old line to my Stihl dealer and see if he can match it up.

Thanks everyone.

Bob, I use Tygon on them all the time and throw the spring away when I do.

I think I used 1/8x3/16 on it but dont hold me to that.

Interesting Mark! I wondered if the spring served a significant purpose other than to stop the line from kinking. I wonder how much suction the pump produces and whether the spring serves some purpose toward that end.

The spring did help with the kinking but it also acted as a hose clamp to keep the hose on the pump and pickup screen

Alright guys, who can answer this? I see pistons for the 2000 models with type I, II, III, my question is, I need a piston but one without top rod bearings, the one I found on ebay sez fits 2000 Type 1.2.3. would this be for one with top rod bearings??

scrap yard 2.0

My dad was using our scrap picked 2.0 craftsman the other day. Said it ran great but was real smoky. Blue smoke like it was burning bar oil. I put a carb kit, lines, filters and flushed the fuel tank. Question. Im pretty sure these saws use a diaphram type pump that uses crank case vacum. If there was a crack in this diaphram could oil be sucked in? I know it is bar oil. And I know neither of us put bar oil in the fuel tank.
Note: This is NOT a cuurent pic of the saw!

Joe theres no diaphragm in that system as it is a pressure system.

It means that the crankcase pulses are used to pressure the oil tank. There is a one way check valve screwed into the case behind the clutch and is probably your culprit. If you look up the part for a 2000 I think it is the latest part # for it and it can still be oredered from Poulan.

There is also a check valve in the so called pump assy but that assy is NLA.

Hey Joe, it's possible the seem in the crank case for the oil tank may be leaking, may have to reseal the crankcase halves.

Have fun on the vaca Mark! Thanks for the info, I might pull that apart tomm and see. If that doesnt solve the problem it might be like Dave said, but since the saws runs so good on any angle I think it might be that check valve

Couple Micros Lol.

Is it safe to say this cylinder is shot, I tryed honing it with a flex hone but the grooves are too deep.

Questionable. I've had some that looked bad and used a scotchbrite pad to clean them up. Never got scoring completely out, but enough so my fingernail didn't catch on them. Give it a try. Nothing lost.

S25cva

Picked this one up today. Fuel line is toast, you can actually see it poking between the recoil and case. Allthe vitals are good and it ran on a prime. P&C look new. I'd like to get some decals since the rest of the saw is in good shape. Has a cheesy 14'', low rent, oregon bar that I will be replacing. This is my first green CVA I have the Dayton version. I dont pass these up.

You really have to be careful on those fuel lines where you route them. I replaced one this week on my 2.1 Craftsman and it ran for about 5 minutes and it quit again. I took the starter side off and the flywheel had chewed the new fuel line in two! The second time I was a little more careful of where I ran it.

There are 2 (or 1 on old 25s) hoops above the flywheel. Your fuel line has to pass thru those or it will get caught. I will post a pic tomm if no one does before me.

I routed mine (the first time) exactly the way it was. I should have known better because the old fuel line had a hole in it in the vicinity of the flywheel. I probably did the second one wrong also but it's out of the way. Please post the pics and if mine is too far off I can still change it.
