Poulan 361

Here is my latest older Poulan, a 361 thumb pumper. I rebuilt carb, fuel lines, plug etc. It actually runs very well, but does need a new chain. I don't plan on using it for work, just an ocasional old time play thing, I guess.:)

Yes, but will the Wild Thing still be running in a year (or 30 years)? First real saw that I bought was a 361 back in the late '70's. Still have it along with a couple of others (and I just found a brand new chain for it 2 weeks ago).

Yes, Your absolutly right there. :) No argument from me.
Long live the old green!!!

Gregg,

Poulan 361

I have one that runs, may need crank seals (oil under flywheel),
have to prime carburetor to start 1st time, but will restart normally the
same day. I pulled muffler last year to check, the P&C looked good.
I plan to do a little more work on it, should make a good backup saw
& stump whacker. It uses the same B&C as my 4200 & 5400, wearing
a spare bar & old chain from the 4200 now.

I have a file originally posted by Thomas 72, (I think) for these dinosaurs
(service manual), looks like a scanned copy in .pdf format.

Gregg,

Nice looking old saw, Gregg. Looks like your collection continues to grow. :)

auto oiling on 361

The service manual I found & downloaded on this site shows an
automatic oiler in addition to the thumb pump. The diagrams
look like the one I have which looks a little rougher than the one
in Ohio Gregg's picture.
I checked earlier, still have the 361 manual on hard drive.
Another member posted the link last year. Anyone interested, send
a PM with an e-mail address & I will pass it along, it is a small enough
file that my dial-up can handle.

My Poulan collection grows....

I picked up a nice 4000 CounterVibe with 20" bar on Saturday and a 306 on Monday. The 306 will run on mix in the carb, the 4000 is a running and cutting machine. These go with the original 361 I bought over 30 years ago, the 245SA I picked up last week, and a 2000, 2300CVA, Pro 236 and 3400 all of which I bought new.

I also have some newer models along with a Pro 295 I got yesterday that is up and running.

S25 fuel line

First tho, nice saws Gregg. That 361 is cool, never see any here tho. Your wild thing rips!
For JR, Here is the hoop that the fuel line passes thru on a 25 series saw. The one in the picture is an old model 25. 2.1 ci engine and manual oiler. These had one hoop. The newer saws the super 25DA and CVA have 2. In the pic Im pulling the line under it, then I grabbed it with a forceps and pull it thru. You can see how without that hoop, the flywheel will grab that fuel line and shred it.

Sounds to me like some one else is starting to collect quite a few green saws. The 4000 is probably my favorite saw. It just fits well for most of what I cut. Usually with a 20" bar, but will handle 24" easily. Has decent power and anti-vibe. Easy as all get out to work on, if need be. And, just a darn good lookin saw in my opinion.:)

Gregg,

We do like the 4000s around here:clap:. Mine wears an NOS 20" oregon Power Match. Take a bow for the nice clutch decal Mr. Gregg!

Thanks, Joe. The 361 was an E-Bay find, pretty cheap. Figured I would take a chance, didn't NEED one, just thought it would be something different in the Poulan line, I didn't have.:dizzy:

The Wild Thing is a result of all the talk lately about having "poor man" WT races..LOL Doesn't get much cheaper, as saws go. From what I have seen so far, there are quite a few guys that have been pleasantly suprised at the little saw that takes so much abuse.:)
Don't get me wrong though, when I go out to cut wood, it isn't the one I will grab. But, for fun cutting, looks like it fills the bill.

Gregg,

Hope it's not against the rules, but I figured id post them up here as well as the swap meet if any of you poulan heads is interested. Ill add some pic's tomorrow. I picked up a mint 2300, one of the later models with the blue stickers like the 3400-4000 models, but the piston is scored. Probably straight gassed early in life. Hardly any paint wear at all and nice and shiney.
Also picked up a a 2.3 CVA, one with the full antivibe handle and tall filter cover. It seems to have good compression, but thats all I know.

Id keep them, but I have WAY too many irons in the fire.
