I like 'em green
Those saws look well used.

We'll see once I get them but both are runners and hard to beat for the price.
Those saws look well used.

Here's an IPL that shows both electronic and points systems and a service manual for your 25.
Ok, it's a bit late - but I'm coming back to this one again. I see a solid state number for this saw, 39088 in the IPL you were kind enough to post for me.
Would you know if I can just order that and bolt it on if it was a breaker saw? Change flywheel as well necessary if so?
Thanks,
Jason
yup Tim is correct, the cylinder's have different bosses on them for mounting the solid state coils and points coils.Jason,
Have a hard look at the IPL for dashes (-) in the part number area.
The flywheel, crankshaft and cylinder are specific to the points setup and the electronic set up.
That would involve a major change for you on a very common saw.
If you can't find the breaker type coil 530039022 you may be well ahead just to find another 25 series saw or head over to this thread if someone here can't help you.

If you mean module by solid state where the coil and trigger are in the same coil, you wouldn't want to do that. You would get two signals to fire the plug at different times.
The Nova and other similar modules are made to work with the coil from a points saw. I got a good deal on a saw where the PO added a module to the points saw coil and forgot to disconnect the points. Two signals and it would only run well at idle. After that, it was interesting.
I still think your best route would be to locate a burnt up points saw for cheap and swap the points and coil into yours.
Well I picked up some gloss Lime Green Green today likt jj showed me so I'm going to give it a try this weekend and see how this 3400 turns out.
Cleaned up the Craftsman a bit last night, removed a bunch of carbon and rust from inside the muffler. Pretty clean saw. I think one of the AV mounts might be shot cause the handle moves more than my other saws. Gonna need new fuel lines too, it's kinda rigged weird and I think its leaking air because it will start on choke and race for a few seconds and then shut off. Somebody also put a screw in the spot where the vent line is supposed to go so I'll have to fix that too. Other than that all looks pretty darn good. It's a 1982 model from the date under the plastics.

Very nice! I see the early Craftsmans didn't have a chain brake... interesting. Or maybe it was only Canadian ones?
