I've learned to watch the kerf for closure very carefully. Those 5200's are animals and always an eye opener to the non believers.
I love mine if you couldn't tell.
I'd never get mine done but I would like to run one that was ported.

lol, I thought I was too. I even put a wedge in there for a little insurance. See how that turned out...

I often wondered about a ported 5200 also Tim. I guess you need to find an old school porter to mess with them. Reeds an all. I have seen a pic or two somewhere of a guy running a 8500 in saw competitions. Heck, I don't even own any ported saws. Old or new. They all seem to cut wood fast enough for me any way. :D

Gregg,

It is amazing how many Poulan wanted ads are on Craigslist. What is really funny is most of them say for cheap.

I also know at least 10 people that have over 100 Poulan saws or other brands. I know 2 that have over 400

Most probably scored to heck.

Could be. "More than 10 available / 12 sold" indicates some kind of pallet deal. Factory refurb deal? Customer returns? The tip of the bar on the saw in the photos is the only clear sign of use that I see; maybe a homeowner scared the crap out of themselves (kickback) and returned it.

The mixed feedback is about what I'd expect from a warehouse seller that does little or (most likely) no testing.

This 361 I've been working on doesn't have spark. I replaced the wire that goes from the coil to the starter switch cause the old one was pieced together. Still no spark. Is there a way to see if the coil is bad or if it might be the switch?

Piece of cake, remove clutch, drum, flywheel and points cover. Clean with sandpaper re gap to .017 if I remember correctly. It says it on cover.

Great, thanks a lot I appreciate it. The whole points thing is new to me but I figured I'd run into it at some point on some saw!

The switch grounds the coil in the off position. Disconnect the switch wire at the coil and check for spark. If you get spark, either the wire or the switch is grounding the coil. If you don't, check the points. They often get contaminated with crud and oil.
Not to insult you, but did you try a different plug? Also check the connection between the plug wire and the coil.

I've got a decent copy of the IPL for the 361 if you need one.
