I don’t have the three bolts up front on that big CC gasket, on this saw anyways.

May be an early model. The PTO case side lip doesn’t exactly match the starter side, at the very bottom. Looks like it may have got smacked, but can’t see any dings or gouges.

One gasket fits all, & you just trim it off at the front there?

Yep thats a early model and easy to see why it was updated with the rib in front. Your's dose look like it took a hit at some time. While I had the case split, I would take a heat gun to that case and get that dented part real hot then GENTLY start tapping it back to where it should be.

And yes, same gasket just trim the extra off the front.

I decided to look at my 4900 last night. I picked this saw up last October at the Mastermind GTG, had a bit of a strange whistle when you pulled it over. I did check compression (175 PSI) and good spark but I wanted to see if I could track down the strange sound. One thing led to another and...

To go any further I will need to remove that oiler worm gear, any suggestions?

The seals look good and compression is great, maybe I should just clean it up from here and put it back together? Opinions?

I will need at least a base gasket for the cylinder and the gasket for the reed block. I do have Modified Mark's scans, but would like to buy some gaskets if possible to same some time & effort.

Is there a case gasket if it go ahead and split it? Might as well get a case gasket too in that case.

Does anyone know the size of the seals? The list that Aaron prepared (I think it was Aaron) says OEM are 530019075, SKF 6904 or National 471466 are subs but are described as a tight fit on the shaft.

Finally I will need a clutch drum for this saw, preferably 3/8" pitch.

Mark the worm gears usually just pry right off as there not that tight on the shaft, they are actually secured by the clutch.

Chris and I originally came up with the National seals, as far as I'm concerned they work just fine and I have used many of them without any issues. That said, I think Fossil was working on a closer fit seal. Poulan does have the original seals available still as well as the oil pump seal and a few gaskets like your looking for, but no case gaskets.

So you may want to just order the seals and all from Poulan. Its easy just to order them from Poulan Pro.com and the shipping is pretty reasonable. The sprockets are common on ebay, and are the same as the 306 and 245 saws as well.

I always seem to have trouble navigating the Poulan Pro.com site to find the old saw parts, but I will give it another try.

Acornhill has already indicated he should have everything so I may just take the easy way out...

After seeing your 4900 run in Baraboo last year I am excited to have this one.

That easy way out is a good way out. Great guy too.

The 4900 ran better then its operator would allow it to for sure.
