Wife won't let me leave a fire going, scared we would have a chimney fire. I keep ours cleaned out. Haven't had a fire this year, miss having one. I do have some dry wood in the wood shed stacked up and it's been drying for two years now.

Figured out I have a failed case gasket in a 4200 between the oil tank & crankcase.

Had a huge air leak at the oiler cover crank seal.

I assumed that the inner PTO crank seal was leaking badly & caused the oiler cover seal to also leak test air, so replaced them both.

Boy was I wrong!, and probably wasted good money, as it badly failed pressure test again with the brand new seals installed....unless I put my thumb over the oil tank hole where the pick up tube goes in. Then it holds 8# all day long. The oil filler cap is screwed down tight.

Never ran the saw previously, but it would have smoked like a freight train.

I’ve never split that series, but I’m fixing to, so is there anything different to watch out for?

Nope, one of the easiest saws in the world to work on.

Here is the scan of all the gaskets

I don’t have the three bolts up front on that big CC gasket, on this saw anyways.

May be an early model. The PTO case side lip doesn’t exactly match the starter side, at the very bottom. Looks like it may have got smacked, but can’t see any dings or gouges.

One gasket fits all, & you just trim it off at the front there?

Well, I reassembled my 2800 oil assembly. Ran but no oil output. Pulled check valve and was able to get the duckbill valve out. Was in good shape, so that wasn’t the problem. Oil line is tygon and seems fine. Though I might replace it just for added insurance. Only other culprit has to be the metering valve. It won’t hold a vacuum so I presume it’s okay. That’s about the only other part that could be causing the problem. The small wire is also in the bleeder hole.

People seem to have frustrating issues with those oilers. Replace the tygon incase it has shrunk and is letting in air.
Do you have another check valve you can try? I would put a piece of duct tape over the vent hole with the wire in it to make sure that isn't allowing too much air into the tank. That's a vent to allow tank pressure to bleed off when the saw is shut down so it's doesn't keep oiling.

It's all about air leaks not allowing the oil tank to build pressure.

Won’t hurt to try. Don’t have another check valve.

Working on a 3700 that just won't run, had already been gone through by someone else. Yeah you guessed it carb gasket in the wrong order. She is a runner now, like it when it's easy to spot the problem. Hope you all had a great valentine's day and got the best one something good
