Saw is a dolmar. The mountains cant remember what he said years past in pics.
First time on this thread cuz not much of a poulan fan. I also have many, 10+ ,poulan limbers under different badges, BUT, I did pick-up a 1001 the other day and did a quicky look-see..You seem like "da man" on POULAN so I put this to ya.. Looks like it had gotten warm/hot at one point cuz there's been some ozzing (tech term) of something coming from somewhere but it found its way to the base of the flywheel.. Seen this before? Compression within reason, 130+, and spark. Question is.. Is it worth putting it on the bench,? or put a coat of paint on it and let it be a paperweight? It's a big ol saw, but not one of my biggest, but would serve well as a backup. Thanks, KIMG_20171114_120233.jpg

Working on my 4000. New rings and the usual additional stuff; seals fuel and vent lines and carb rebuild. Saw ran poorly. Wondered what was wrong. Pulled fuel line from tank and forgot to put a filter on. Pulled carb and pump side screen was clogged from crap in tank. Cleaned it and voila, runs fine

Good to hear that your 4000 is up and running, I hate when I forget what I forgot that I was supposed to be doing and didn't do it. I got my 4000 running and like yours wasn't to good, changed the duckbill, no help, had to put a new pump diaphragm in and she is a runner. Those 4000 sound so strong.
