==pressure oil system is tempremental ==Thinning the bar oil down seems to be a good idea almost all the time.
thing about the pressure systems is that there is no mechanical help moving the bar oil. the little metering orifices (being generous...) and the check valves don't need much help to gum up and get stuck. not sure if it actualy helps, but the diesel/bar oil blend makes me feel better, having a bit of solvent in the fluid and all.

I'm going to try 5w-30 motor oil to check for signs of life.

It has been really cold here lately (40 deg. in the garage) and the one Mac E.B. 2014 refused to move bar oil. 2014's and their ilk with the mechanical pump are very good oilers most times. The next saw I finished refurbing was a Homie XL and I filled it with 5w-30 to no result. XL pressurized tank system. Maybe it needs a load on the engine to develope some 'push'.

My Poulan S25 CVA is now ready to start and will try the 5w-30 motor oil this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I may have to wait until April on some of them. Mother won't allow me to bring them into the house to warm up.:crazy1:

Geez, what are you guys using for bar oil, bitumen or 85w-140?

Crater 'C' wire rope lubricant. You have to heat it to 250 deg to get it to flow.

Just kidding. The Poulan bar & chain oil from Ace is like honey in my garage at 40 deg. I'll have to pick up an old electric blanket at a garage sale for a 'saw heater'.

The 5w-30 worked this morning. Checked for tank leaks with mineral spirits and refilled. Got him running :wave:and primed with the manual oiler. We get a drip or so when we hit WOT. The clutch flew off but was easy to find in the snow. Should I use LocTite?

Now for a bar/chain. Only loose one I have is an 18" (Yikes!) unless we swap with a 14" from one of the Walmart 2150's.

Do not use Loctite on your Clutch. Problem is you ran saw with clutch cover off. That's a no-no.

Checked an HDB and it measured 18.7mm.

Bob, Thats what I got also on the Zama, out at the end,19mm, with my non-digital calipers. Back in the center it narrows down to about 17mm.
Just came in from outside, never thought to ck the Walbro's demensions.
I suspect they are the same from the looks of it. The Zama's metering needle is smaller, but has the same setup as the Walbro. Spring, arm, screw all looks the same too.

Was working on a 306A today, got it running. few odds & ends to do yet. But looks like it too, will be a runner. Will get some pics of it in the next few days.:)
Gregg,

I was going to swap the bar from my micro to try it out, but this one has 1/4" chain on it. I'm thinking I should probably convert it to 3/8 picco?

The saw had light overspray of red paint on it that cleaned off easily with Acetone. It's in great shape with 135 PSI compression. From what I hear that's pretty good on these.

Is the clutch cover supposed to be held on with a bolt? If not, I need to get a stud and nut.

The only real paint loss is on the front of the case. I'll probably touch that up. I would like to get new decals for this one perhaps. Is there supposed to be a small spike bolted to it?

It needs a new fuel cap. I assume it's supposed to have a duckbill valve in it, and I see no provisions to put one in this cap. It appears to be broken. Fuel just sprays out of it.

Here it is with it's little brother.

Brad, these saws are made with the bolt holding the clutch cover on.

These saws use the same bar as the walmart poulans so bars are easy to find. Rural king has a new brand of bars and chains called Arnold. The bars are 9.99 and bars with chains are 14.99.

A Stihl 3005 bar seems to work on the micro. I assume this one takes the same bar?

We don't have Arnolds, or I'd be all over that deal. I paid that much for a chain alone today for the micro.
