Craftsman Poulan Help

Craftsman model 358 350 270 is really a Poulan right? What model would be correct for IPL and Service Manual? Can't get the fuel line routed...

I Think It Is A Poulan 1950 Type 1-5. Cylinder Kit is Same P/N As
Sears Model Number.

You are on the right track with that one. The Poulan 1950 looks basically the same (well it is lime green).

Does anyone know how to put new fuel line in on this one?

It looks like it's in the side of the case above the fuel fill cap.

Model Profile: 1950

I have the misc. from the three I scrapped out if you need anything. Threw out the engines, chassis and wraps, saved everything else.

Sears has the correct size fuel line. #530069216 @ $4.19 enough for two saws unless you want to drill out the hole in the tank.

Sweet, thanks for the part number. It's on Poulans order site too.

Can you confirm from the tear downs you did that the fuel line came from filter in the tank to the carb without fittings in between?

Yup, just did one. You inspired me to fix one of the runners that lost its' filter.

The small line is the carb supply directly to the carb, recoil starter side of the tank. The larger (who knows why?) is the vent line and gets the 'primer' (purge pump if you will) plumbed between carb and tank.

There is a tiny hose barb in the return (purge) line at the end inside the tank. It serves to seal the hose to the tank wall. After you feed the line in the tank, trim, insert barb and pull back so the barb-hose jams into the tank port.

My thumbs hurt. I wish you could buy hose that didn't have to be soo small to seal. Yikes!

Thanks again, I was wondering what the extra fitting was for!

There was an earlier post in this Thread about routing the fuel line with the primer. As I recall one line draws fuel from the carb and the other returns(pushes) it into the tank. Its exactly opposite of what one would think. In other words the primer doesn't pull fuel from the tank and into the carb. The third line comes from fuel tank into the carb. I hope I remeber this right as it was a while ago that I rebuilt a 1950.

Yup, 'primer bulb' sucks thru the carb. Why I refer to it as a purge pump and not a primer.

Brian: Works same as your E.B. 2014.

1950

Thanks guys, I was more confused about the extra fitting in the tank. I am getting a fuel line kit and should be able to get it now.

67L36Driver did you use a wire or something and snake the new line in from the tank towards the carb?

Just picked up a Gray Craftsman 358.356090 I found the manual online and it indicates it is a 3.7 CI. Is this the same as a Poulan Countervibe 3700 or is it a 3800?

Thanks.

On Poulan's website there are three different IPLs and within them several "versions". How do you know the 358 350 270 translates into the 1-5 version? Just curious so I make sure I order the right fuel line kit since there are several different kit numbers within the three 1950 IPLs???

I Looked Up The Sears Model Number On Searspartsdirect.com. I Looked
At The Cylinder Kit P/N. I Googled The Part Number & It Came Up On
A Listing For A Poulan 1950 Type 1-5. That Is Why I Said I Think It Is
A Poulan 1950 Type 1-5. You Might Look On The Sears Parts List For
The 358.356070 & See What P/N It Shows For The Fuel Line Kit. On The Poulan
Parts Site It Shows A Lot Of Different 1950 IPL's. That Is Why I Said I Think It
Is a 1950 Not That it is A 1950. Hope This Helps.

The Craftsman Part Number For The Cylinder Is The Same As The Cylinder For
A Poulan 3800. Should Be A 3800.

Cut a 1-1 1/2 inch taper to the line, poke it thru far enough to grab it with my surgeons clamp, twist it around the end of the clamp and lever it thru. Add a tad of lube to the line at the port to make it slide easier.

No theres no nipple to put one on, its held in place by the small star shaped washer/retainer.

If you use a original Poulan duckbill they slip right in, but the center hole has to be enlarged to use the Homelite duckbill.

If you get with Mike sometime, he knows how to do it since we did his when he was up here.

I use a bic stick pen barrel to drive the reatainer back in. I think I have a picture, I know I posted it before but I'm sure its also buried in this thread to never be found again. LOL

Thanks Mark. After closer inspection, I could see that there was a retainer in there. I pull it out and installed a new duckbill. I'm good to go now:)
