Yes, I saw that Steve, and thats about ALL I know about them...lol
I think John nailed it, and is what it looks like to me, an early version of the 306. The lighter yellow/green color seems to be the older models.
Gregg,
Great pickup Gregg. Craigslist in the DFW area is very poor as far as saws go, or they are overpriced. Don't have a clue re the 203. Even my Repair manual doesn't list it. I'm sure Mark will know.
Bob
John, I HATE adds that dont list a price, and they are open to offers.. I don't want to offend someone, but don't want to pay to much too, LOL
I offered him $100 for all 3 of them, and he accepted. Maybe to much, who knows. He did check the P/C and compression on them, and were all good.
I was most interested in the 203, since ya just don't see them.

Gregg,
Greg, there is alot about the 200 series that I don't know about. You just don't see them that often and like the link above says, the 203 was only made for 2 years.
Probably the same saw as a 201 or 202 except that the 203 is a power sharp saw with the automatic decomp.
The 203 from what I can tell is basically a older verision of the 306SA but it seems it used a ND ign instead of the Phelon used on later 306's. I'm not sure that some of the early 306's didn't use the ND ign as well. I believe you can tell the ND ign by the yellow coil, and small dia high tension wire.
My 203 has the older style clutch on it, and the Poulan molded into the clutch cover.
There was a guy near me that thought he had a 245 but come to find out is was probably a 223.
I have found out the early 200 series had the model number only on the top cover decal, the metal tag on the fan cover only lists the serial number.
Look at the 2 screw tin muffler on the 203, why did Poulan go to the cast muffler on the 306 when it came out and then back to the tin mufflers on the later ones?
Lots I still don't know .
I posted this before but here is my 203.
I believe my Gambles-Sabre is also actually a 203 even though Acres list it as a 306
congrats Gregg! gotta love a good score like that!
Thanks Mark!!! Thats 100% more than I knew about them before.
I need more saws, like I need a hole in the head. But, when something a little different comes along, its hard to pass up.
Figures, that I just recently bought a 306, along with another parts saw to boot. Such is the life of an old Poulan Lover, there is no end to it!!
Gregg,
Possum, the only true thumb pumper 306 is the 306. Most were 306A with manual and auto.
Dang Mark,so this is where your hiding
now ya'all got me goin again, got two 306a's need carbs done, havta brave the cold and pull em and bring em up to the shack and rebuild em for sumthin to do.
I ain't been hiding, well not much anyway.
Glad to see you dropping by though.
I just spent almost 10 min trying to come up with some smart axe remark involving poulans and dropping and came up blank...think i'm losing it
one of the 306's i have to do the carb on is that red one you had me take the oil tank off the 245 and put on it.if i had a green cover it would look neat be green, red, green, top to bottom !
now if there was a green top i could put on it..........
