I decided to tear into a 2150 I have been tripping over for months. Great stress reliever if you have ever tried it. Started by pressing a newer ignition onto the old posts. Fired up and ran good. Tore her down and warmed up the carbide. I went pretty extreme with it.....just cause I don't care if she blows LOL. Couple picks next to the shavings pile.
Mine next Mitch? :)

Got my 3400 coming in, thinking of trying a Windsor speed tip bar and a 50APL70 chain on it. Never used Windsor before and the chains look pretty agressive, so I'm gonna probably give it a try. I think the 3400 will like that chain too.

Sounds pretty good.

I'm waiting for you to get the 2900. I'll bet you could have it rockin in no time.

If its still there this weekend I will be dragging it home.
I played with the combustion chamber a bit on this one.

And no, I didn't soak the piston in oil first.

Also ordered a Poulan .325 bar, and sprocket and LPX chain for the Wild Thing, we'll see how that works out.........

Wow now that some compression there, no wonder she spins almost 14000 RPM.

You will have to explain to me how you did that on a clamshell engine to get those results.

I tried the .325 on the 2500 but ended up running the Low Pro on a 7 tooth rim.

Determinig Squish

I've read posts for checking squish but wonder how you guys do it. I imagine I need to remove cylinder do do so? Just received a Makita BB kit and am thinking of not using the base gasket but want to be sure I don't mess something up.

Mount the cylinder with gasket and piston installed with out rings. Take a piece of flux core solder and stick it into the spark plug hole and up against the cylinder wall. You want to get a measurement at the compression band and straight above the wrist pin on both sides. Turn the saw over to smash the solder and measure the compressed solder.

Guy up the road is having a garage sale i went up there this evening and to my surprise he had an old poulan.

He says its a 8500 with the original bar and chain, the guy only wants a $100 for it but it only has 165 psi of compression. The decals have some scratches on it, and the bar is kinda rusty. He started it, ran great. He said he bought it new back '84 used it a few times then let it sit in the back of the pick up and thats how it got some scratches. He also said something about a full wrap handle for it. I was side tracked by my girlfriend coming home so i had to leave.

Is that a fair price for a saw that old or is he trying to hose me like the guy i bought the 3700 from?

Clay, Most of us would give our right arm, or most of it any way, for an 8500. But if you think a 3700 is to heavy and to hard to find parts for, you don't want a 8500.:hmm3grin2orange:

Flux core solder. Is that plumbing solder or electrical. I think there's a differance but not sure.
