Picked up a new gauge today.

Yes I got her to some wood this afternoon. That governor has to go. Is it a check ball style? Have not investigated yet.

Yes I guess you could call it that, its the regular HS style governor.

I guess that comp could be up there if the chambers carboned up some. Poulan used to reccomend 16-1 fuel in them you know.

I'm probably wrong though after looking at the picture of that piston again. It looks pretty darn good.

If your going to part the 3.3 I could use the muffler if you don't need it. Might have a spike for the 245 to trade.

Welcome to it Mark. PM your add and I will get it out.

There was some carbon build up in the exhaust that I removed but not sure that is the culprit. My new gauge reads 160ish as well but the heck if I care LOL. It pulls great.

Also, I need to junk that chain. It is a vangaurd I modified and its way to grabby.

Mitch that was one heck of a find that saw is wonderfull.

They maynot be the fastest in the world but there not slow and just listen to that engine pull. It never changes sound. They pull hard all day up to a 28" bar.

A 28 is as long as I have ever run on one, I aught to bolt a 32" on one some time just to see if it would pull it. I don't really think it would like it that well though.

Thanks Sir and I agree 100%. It pulls very well but the thing that blows me away, it feels like a 55cc saw. Other than the vibes, which are not terrible, I could run this for an afternoon.

Yes I did a thread on them along time ago, for 74cc there about as light as they come. (13.5lbs) At least no one at the time could point out any that were better.

The 245 was the best of the best back in the day. Don't be afraid to push the
he!! out of that manual oiler when the bar is buried, that's what it's there for!

i got a question about compression on a 3.7 craftsman (AKA poulan in craftsman grey colors). Is a 120 pounds a good compression reading on one of these saws or should i put a set of rings in it.i know the poulan 3700 and the 3800 poulans have the chrome cylinders and if i had to put rings in it. do i have to use some really fine grit sand paper to ruff up the cylinder a little bit like you do on a truck with a hone. when you put new rings In it? the owner sad it has 120 pounds on 3 pulls when he tested it but I'm kind of new to this compression testing stuff.

I purchased a NOS Oregon 23115 rim and drum from my S25CVA. One catch, it didn't come with a needle bearing. Anyone know where to find one? Here' what I measured.

OD - .556"
ID - .435"
Width - .440, which the bearing will need to be a little wider than.

I'll leave the compression question to the 3400-4000 experts. 120Lbs sounds OK to me. If you do decide on a set of rings, be careful about deciding whether to hone the jug.

The 3800's (and possibly some late 3700's) came with a chromed piston and a 'naked' bore. Don't go near it with a hone or sandpaper if your cylinder is 'naked'.

Most 3700's seem to have been built with a chromed bore and a 'naked' piston. A quick and light scuffing of the bore can clean up any alluminum transfer or ring glaze. A 3.7 Craftsman could be a 3700 or a 3800. Make sure you know what rings to buy (3700's and 3800's used different rings), and whether or not to scuff the jug.

Don't mess with it!

120 is about all they had brand new.
And you won't do anything by "scuffing" a chrome cylinder except make your plating thinner.(IMHO)

I agree with Mike and others. 120psi is acceptable. Generally, the grey/black craftsmans were 3800 unplated bore plated piston, the red/black saws were 3.7s and plated bore unplated piston. but there are exceptions to this rule too.
