Thanks for all the insite Flint...

I'm not sure they have em, but Outdoordistributers is showing the gasket sets for these saws as still available, although I have ordered from them in the past and gotten an email stating parts were NLA.

Mark, Mike, John, and anyone else who wants to chime in. I'm going to have to order a new bar and chain for this 5400, (20" won't cut it, pun intended) and was thinking of trying one of these bars. What does everyone think of this?

Sugihara chainsaw bar 30" Husqvarna Stihl Echo Makita - eBay (item 260289718530 end time Mar-08-11 14:42:02 PST)

It's your money Randy, but I would step it up to a 32'' if you have a use for a bar that long. I like the 5400 the best out of the BIG POULANS, IMO you got a very good deal!

Weed Eater carb screws

I recently acquired a Poulan Weed Eater engine.
I went through the engine and carb.
Now I need the little splined carb screw adjusting tool.
Where can I get one?
Why did they put the splined screws and not regular screws?
:bang::bang::angry:

i think e-bay has them on there i haven't looked yet but i'm planning on gettin me one of them too.

So would my 4200 have the same seal, (pn for 4200 530019075) ,replacement procedure ?? I see Calvin has some seals. May need to replace this piston and don't want the new one to have the same fate!!! Thats what she looks like , on a running saw...hmm for how long was the guy using it like this??

Will pull the cylinder to see if it can be salvaged. don't think I can buff this piston out.... I am trying to find a replacement now...They seem scarce around here ... but may have to.

My $50 saw is going to get some added value :msp_ohmy:

Yes the 4200 uses the same seal.

That piston looks very bad and I have my doubts on saving that cyl but you never know.

Good luck in finding parts.

The reason is the factory sets that carb to meet EPA specs and the EPA don't want you readjusting them.

Too bad aint it?

Go back over to ebay and there is a seller that has them for $6 shipped. I just bought two extras last week.

There the cats meow for adjusting them. Better then almost any other way.

Made a saw haul today. Picked up my first "real" poulan. 245A in near unused condition. Also a 3.3 craftsman. Both seam very promising with strong comp.

Awsome haul. What are the other black ones, Italian macs like the other one?

That 245A is not one of my favorite saws, it "IS" my favorite. If thats got a good P/C that is a good find.

Ha. Ya I found it literally at the bottom of a pile. Could have been eight saws on top of it.

Yes, two Titan 57's and a 50. Also some Stihl thing that looked lonely.

Hey I now own another Poulan...well sorta. Customer gave me a Craftsman ...not sure what model it is yet. 36cc with no chainbreak.

Hey whats that stihl...we need to talk.

I like it!

yes i like that 3.3!!! i like the black and gold ones! i think that will be my next saw that i will be getting!!!

My 2003 PP220 with the Walbro WT391 carb has the fuel pick up line to the carb right side. The primer bulb aft nipple goes to the left side of the carb. The primer bulb forward nipple goes back to the tank near the cylinder. I think your PP260 uses the same carb and primer bulb. Never have had any fuel problems, it's original.
Thanks Scott, I rebuilt my wt 391 on my Poulan 2450 and I have not been able to keep it running. It will start then die after a few seconds. I have worked on it 3 days, taken it apart at least 10 times trying to figure out the problem. I think you may have just solved it. I have The supply line from the tank going to the primer bulb, left side of the carb to the other primer port, and the the return line from the tank to the right side of the carb. I can't wait until tomorrow morning to switch them around. This is my first rebuild and I'm determined to not to let it beat me. Would this be the same setup for a wt 380 carb on a huskvarna trimmer?

got #2 from first cad batch running! Poulan 2000 and fuel line questions

I got the 2000 working today after scraping and blasting about half a lb of pure crud out of it and cobbing together a fuel line system. It'll need another disassembly and better soap and water, etc, cleaning though, I was trying to beat an approaching T storm to see if it would run or not. It did. No idea on the carb, I just ran them both out 1 turn and small change and started yanking, once there was some fuel in there it came to life pretty readily. I goosed the idle up just a bit, didn't put the bar back on it yet, and only ran it for two minutes. It smoked a little, then cleaned up. The muffler screen looked fine. The carb spits a little at idle. Not a lot, but I noticed it. I don't see any markings for high or low though, with the screws, so I don't know yet which is which. I forgot to note which model walbro it is, apparently they used two different ones and the screws are reversed in order.

What I don't understand is what that little double barbed connector in the handle is for. I mean, I got one from another saw and used it, but it doesn't fit into the hole (or maybe I wasn't pushing it in hard enough..). I used it just for a splice so I could reuse two shorter pieces of line I had. Can't you just route one long piece? The IPL shows it as needed, but this saw had nothing in the way of a fuel line when I opened it up, just a short broke off piece in the tank with the filter. Is that just a safety feature, to keep the hose from rubbing where it routes through the hole?

The barbed fitting was used so you could disconnect the line if you needed to take the fan housing cover off. I always reuse too.

Those saws use 4 different carbs, and you say it's a poulan 2000 so I'll say it's either a Walbro WT3, WT20, or WT309. I have in front of me a Tillotson HU10, a Walbro WT3, and WT20, and a Walbro WA19, all these carbs have the adjustment screws as L on the left or bottom, and H on the right or top.

The connector is there so you can separate the recoil side of the case with the fuel tank inside it without having to pull the fuel line out of the tank. You can just use one piece or you'll need to remove the gas tank from the side cover if you want to remove the recoil.
