Poulan 744 Bow Saw

This is a video of a 744 bow saw I took at the Mid VA GTG from yesterday. Also might want to look in the background at some of David Harsh's Poulan collection. Right in the middle there's an A900 that's in mint condition and several other bow saws. Sorry I didn't get more pics of his saws, but you know how it is. ...Had some saws to run.

Well after the ground sniffing and tail wagging ended I finally treed this afternoon!
This is what I ended up with.

Not quite as good of a deal as last time but well worth the cost.
I have almost as much in the trip up there and back as I do in the saw!!!

162 lbs. comp on my old gauge that has been fairly accurate.
Starts and runs GREAT, needs clutch springs and a BATH!!!

Mike

Really no need now for that 056 in your sig. Too many Poulans, so we'll tax that one out. Send it here and I'll send you a refund.

Thanks for posting Steve.

Nice to see a 744. Hard to tell from the video but it sure seems to me that the carb is set way to rich or the governor has went south on it.

Then on the other hand it seemed to be idleing way too fast, maybe has a air leak.

You guys better send it to me to examine. I "might" send it back. :hmm3grin2orange:

Just like a good Kentucky briar dog!

Good job.

You know me better than THAT Brother...................I don't sneak anywhere for s#!+!!!!!

Mike

Naw, I know, I knew that was coming didn't I?

Had a bad day, Stacy brought me 5 saws to check out for him. 5 Stihls = 5 PITA's.

Got that shorter roller nosed bar cleaned up for the 71-A. Got to put the new rim sprocket and get a new shorter .404 chain for it.

You might be right about the air leak. Hope he doesn't burn it up. Can't seem to wrest anything away from David, so it probably won't be heading North. He said he might come to the Poulan GTG, but one never knows about him. He's got a lot of nice old sand cast saws. He's proud of having most all of them in the collection. He still doesn't have a Model 24. There was one for sale at the GTG yesterday but in very bad condition. Had a bow to go with it. That's one item I want for my 52.

You know Pard, I think some of those Stihls are getting beyond repair!!!

Maybe you'd better sell him some easier to fix saws!

Call me iffen you need to vent!!!:msp_biggrin:

I'm trying to talk him into anything besides those 191T's but he loves them.

He don't brag on there power anymore though since I dusted his hind end with a S25DA last fall though.

Don't worry, I rubbed it into him pretty hard about a 30 year old Poulan whipping his super duper little Stihl.

Gregg,

poulan 3300... (craftsman 3.3 cu in..)

Hey guys...

I picked up a new (to me) Poulan in craftsman colors ( I have a 3800 too!)

somehow, the guy managed to smoke the spur sprocket off the saw, and ruin 1 of the two original chains...still had the factory bar on the saw!! :dizzy:

SO..

I'm needing a rim/drum (Oregon part # 34254X for:

2700
2800
3000
3300
3350
3450
3700
and supposedly 4600 :)dizzy: this is from Randy Duncan's website...)
as well as the 3-digit counter parts :
285
305
330
335
336

$$ is SUPER tight, so what hoping to see if someone had one floating around?? I have a parts 3800 (I don't think that will fit, AND i think it has a spur...)

help is appreciated..
