Hey guys...

I picked up a new (to me) Poulan in craftsman colors ( I have a 3800 too!)

somehow, the guy managed to smoke the spur sprocket off the saw, and ruin 1 of the two original chains...still had the factory bar on the saw!! :dizzy:

SO..

I'm needing a rim/drum (Oregon part # 34254X for:

2700
2800
3000
3300
3350
3450
3700
and supposedly 4600 :)dizzy: this is from Randy Duncan's website...)
as well as the 3-digit counter parts :
285
305
330
335
336

$$ is SUPER tight, so what hoping to see if someone had one floating around?? I have a parts 3800 (I don't think that will fit, AND i think it has a spur...)

help is appreciated..

3300's similar to the 2700, 2800 and 3000's used a .325 pitch sprocket and 66 drive chain. I have some extra parts but no sprockets.

Any of you guys have some info on a 33 super. I would love an Ipl.

Mine is missing the bar and I have no idea what it used to have.

Any information would be appreciated.

I waited over a month for this thing to make it here. It is still filthy, I knocked off the big junks, but I doubt that it has ever been cleaned. The carb and air filter look rather unmolested. P&C don't look bad looking through the exhaust, the rings are probably stuck. To my amazement it has real good spark. I did not try to start it. I want to pull the piston and clean up the ring grooves first. :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Very cool cast aluminum muffler.

Paint worn off handle is good karma.:msp_thumbup:

Looks like someone painted the carb. At least they closed the choke when they did.

Do a comp test before you decide to tear it down. Likely won't need it unless it's scored.

361 Recoil Starter.

How are chances that I can find a recoil starter spring for my 361 at a local OPE dealer?

Made the mistake of cleaning the recoil this evening and I think all the gunk was holding the spring in place. The keeper loop was broken at the rivit and now the anchor loop jumps off the knob.

It wasn't easy getting that pup back in the hole it came out of. Ask me how to use roofing nails and plywood for that chore.

The "large starter disc #4264" was worn to almost nonexistance.:help: Bet it might fit in an envelope.

Carl.

That someones name was poulan I'll bet ya. Seen many of these saws and 306-245 with green paint sprayed like crazy under the hood. Although they did go a little overboard on this saw.

Well boys, after an eternity I finally got off my lazy ass and got another 4000 together. By pics alone it doesn't look much different then most 4000's but there are subtle differnces and this one's a screamer. It's been ported, muffler modded and had the cylinder turned down. All of that isn't really what makes it special to me. What makes this special is how many people, in one way or another contributed to it. Andre helped me assemble it and rebuild I don't know how many carbs before we finally got one that was right. Brad ported it, Mark gave me the quadruple "M" muffler (Modified Mark Muffler Mod.) Appearance wise, Steve, Tim and my brother Marko were all involved in one way or another in getting me the chainbrake. Gregg was kind enought to supply the decals. One of the things that I really like is the bar. It's a Windsor Speed Tip that I stripped, polished (helps when your boss used to have a polishing shop in the basement of your machine shop) and sent out to be black oxided. So, thank you Andre, Brad, Gregg, Mark, Marko, Steve and Tim!
I'll get a video of it as soon as I sink it inot some wood. For now though Gentlemen, I present you with the Poulan Group Hot Rod CV4000

Gosh NIk, sounds like a screamer! Be interested in how it cuts. Great looking 4000.

Wahooo!! Great job Nik! I am really looking forward to seeing, hearing, and RUNNING your 4000. You know that 4000's are my favorite saws.:msp_tongue:
Gregg,

Which poulan 3400-4000 model had a black rear handle? I got a bunch of these saws and am trying to piece together a few and was wondering which one this could be? Some had the recoil or clutch cover on them with the model # but some were missing. Also is there a way to tell the models apart? All I found on these were serial #'s by the hand guard on the top plastic cover. Thanks

Oh, and does anyone have an intake and carb for a 8500 or 5200? I have some extra parts for these saws and may be able to trade something for it.

The later Poulan Pro saws had the black handle but if memory serves me correctly so did the 3800. I may be mistaken and will be corrected if I am. What 8500 parts do you have?

Thanks for the info. It turns out after alittle research my parts saw is a 4900 and not a 5200. I dont know how many parts interchange with a 8500. I have most of the parts for it minus the carb and cylinder. All the 8500 parts I have I think I need for my 8500 rebuild.

A grey cased Craftsman 3.7/Poulan 3800 would indeed have a black handle.

Thanks Aaron. I didnt think I had a 3800. But I guess thats not a bad thing either. These f'ing poulans can be as addicting to "play" with as the homelites!

You're welcome. IIRC, there was a grey cased, black handle Poulan Craftsman 3.4/3400 as well. Best way to know what you have is to pull the muffler and measure the bore. "Popsicle stick" measurement is good enough here. That also will let you see if you have a 3.7/3700 with a chromed cylinder vs. a 3.7/3800 with a chromed piston (or a 3.4/3400 with the chromed cylinder and the smaller bore measurement). Whichever way it turns out..............it's a good saw.:D

I need a gas tank/Handle for a 5200 if you have a extra. What part of the intake to you need? The whole thing with the reeds and all?

I may have a carb thats rebuildable.
