Follow up question. S23 doesn't appear on Acres site. They do have a S25. Are they the same saw?

I have a few old Poulans. I love them. I wish I still had my 306 and my 25 tho'.
I was looking at the 8500 in the brocure you e-mailed me. seems to be a HOSS.
I would like to find a nice 5200 but I don't really NEED one.LOL
Reckon we could start one of those "social group" clubs? If there's not one already.
We need to have a Poulan GTG sometime, that would be great.

Guy on Ebay has a couple 4200 and 5200. Wants $175. Don't know if that's alot or not.

I popped the muffler off of the 4000 I got from bowtechmadman and found out that there isn't nearly as much uncooked meat in a 4000 as there is in a 3400.
The 4000 has a LOT bigger port to start with than the 3400 or 3700.

Does the muffler on your Dads saw have the factory "muffler mod"?

Have two 4000's that have a side discharge on the muffler. Surprised me to say the least.

All this talk about 3700's and 306's and no has mentioned the 2800's and 3000's. IMO very good saws. Simple and dead on reliable. I have a Craftsman version 2800, that I bought new at an Sears scratch and dent store. I have cut miles of wood with that thing and it fires right up. As far as performance it outcuts my Oly 950 and 945 hands down, and its not to far behind my J-red 2150.

I just picked up a batch of auction Poulans and Craftsmans and was wondering what Poulan is a Craftsman 2.8 turbo.model# 358.351191. Is this a good saw or not. Its the black one with Blue writing on it. Its like new and fires right up. Runs good too. Also got a like new 1800 Poulan in the deal.

No, Red. The S23 is akin to the later 2000 models of the 80's and early 90's. Same lower end, carb, etc. I do like the feature on the carb cover that lets you adjust the carb w/o removing the cover. You can see that in the back on the left side of the carb cover. Most of the smaller Poulans don't have that.

To further follow up on your follow up question, the S23 is 2.3 c.i., so I guess it would be more accurate to say it's akin to the 2300. It does have chrome plated cylinder. 2000 & 2300 do not.

I started a Poulan group in the "social groups" section and encourage everyone to join.

I wanted a real slick picture for an avatar so if you have a pic you would like to submit post it and we'll vote for the best one.
I would like to rotate the pics so they can all get a turn on there as the group avatar.

We'll see what happens.

No, I get what your saying. I think he was just saying that he thought the 7900 sounded the same.

That's all I was trying to say. In the wood I think they did sound similar, that Poulan was ahead of it's time.

Another "Ol' Yeller" Poulan

Bought this saw hoping at worst I could use the right half of the crankcase to fix a PP180 that was cracked at the bar stud and leaking bar oil. Previous owner had already tried to fix the 180 with JB weld.

After a little cleaning this is what I got.

New fuel line and it took off and runs great! Has chrome cylinder with two compression rings. P&C look perfect. Paid less than $20 for it.

I had the fortune of meeting Andy, his father and a friend?neighbor. He ran my dad's 4000 and appreciated it for what it was. Mind you, his saws were SICK!!!! but he knew a good running saw when he handled one.

Hey if anybody has a spare gas tank, pm me, the neck on my 3400 tank is stretched out from the wrong fuel cap, and my NOS one wont tighten up

Poulan Pictures

OK, someone wanted pictures posted and here are part of mine (the rest are at the camp). My collection pales in comparison to some of the others but I am still proud of these. Those two yeller ones will rip too and the green one is no slouch, they really are great saws. If I could find an automatic oiler for the green one it would be in Ohio at the Snellerizer's place in a heartbeat but it is manual only. That's the only area where I can knock Poulan on that saw.
