Poulan WildThing

Well the saw arrived and I've torn it down. Crank is broken at the clutch but I have a parts saw coming so'll I'll use that one. Comp is 150 so P&C are good. Saw is a 4018wm and the muffler looks pretty well sealed. Couldn't get to baffles so I found an old muffler from a 2050,I believe, that I think will bolt on. Much more open inside and has a removable baffle and spark screen similar to the 3400 saws. I think this will let her scream. Also made slots in the carb Lo and HI needles so I can use a screwdriver to adjust.

I figured electrical right away. I did check the wire.:hmm3grin2orange: Just didnt put it in proper. :sucks:

Sometimes its the small things that cause all the problems. Had a 3700 that would start, idle, run but die. After I checked everything I decided to pull carb to tear it apart. Lo and behold as I loosened the retaining bolts I found that the fuel line had been partially pinched behind the carb. Simple as that!

They are Poulan green shears.:jester:

Might want to let your significant other help pick out your clothes as you obviously have some red/green deficiency going on. Most men do. The shears are not quite the right shade of green. :hmm3grin2orange:

On the other hand maybe I'm the one who's color blind. :msp_confused:

Regarding The Poulan Lovers GTG

Well, I was hoping it wouldnt come to this, but am going to have to postpone the Poulan GTG. Believe me, there is know one more disappointed than me!

The weather has played hell with things around here this so called spring. Water everywhere. It just doesn't want to quit raining it seems. Things are just impassable due to water everywhere. I took the bigger tractor back last weekend to try and get to some logs, and got stuck!! Right now cant even get to the woods. The 10 day forecast shows nothing but rain & showers.

I will leave it open for discussion, when to try again. We could try for the middle of next month, see what its like then? Or just wait till later in the summer? I know this is going to play heck with peoples schedule's. So I am open for suggestions on a new date. Sorry for the Bad news...

Gregg,

Poulan 3500

I've had a Poulan 3500 for 14 years. I bought it new from TSC for $75 as some kind of close out. It doesn't have a whole lot of time on it as most of the paint is still on the bar and it still has the original chain.

It is a 3.7/60cc Gilardoni engine with .375/20" bar and rim sprocket

The muffler comes apart and would be easy to open up more. But the saw runs well the way it is.

I had it out last week cutting up some downed trees from the big eastern US storm and it got to where it wouldn't run. I back flushed the filter in the tank but that didn't fix the problem. I disassembled the Walbro HDA 49 carb today and there was nothing in the screen but there was plenty of sawdust on the outside of the metering diaphragm. So I guess I'm going to have to put a diaphragm kit in the carb. I remember changing the tank filter some 5 yrs ago and I noticed that I must have put a Tillotson style tank filter in it?

I Was just noticing what a nice saw it was and it even has an adjustable oiler.

But no chain brake!

I also have a new 22" B&C for it that I bought some 5 yrs ago but have never used.

It sure is a cut above the run of the mill (box store) saws.

Greg, don't worry its all good, not great but good anyway.

I know you probably had to beat the hell out of yourself to come to this decsion and even have to say it but trust me, I understand.

The weather around here has not been any better then what you have been having so I hear ya loud and clear.

As for a reschedule, I'm open to just about anytime. Might be going to the lake for Memorial weekend but thats not set in stone either.

Pretty much just tell me when and I'll do my darndest to be there.

so, i picked up a 3400 today w/ a bow bar. any thoughts on the 3400 v. a 361 for driving the bar? 3.4ci v. 3.6ci... anything else? trying to prioritize my repair list

Well I have a 361 with a bow and while I have not ran a 3400 with a bow I have plenty of time on a 3400 with a straight bar.

That said, neither is going to be optimal with a bow. I think the reed valve torque and the extra 5cc of the 361 is going to make it my choice for a bow.

But then again the 3400 will be alot smoother and more quiet.

This is the 3.3 that I got a couple weeks ago. It had a wasted cylinder. Mastermind was kind enough to send me one. I ordered new rings and broke one. First time for everything.... I just couldn't wait to get it in the wood after I acid bathed its sanded cylinder in a dilute solution...I didn't sand it ..Honest! But the guy who sanded it did a good job. I ran it today with only one ring and it performed great. I have a bleached white hardwood laying in the field that I cut a couple of 12 inch cookies off. The saw ran great. I only managed to stall the chain once and I was pushing it hard and this wood is like concrete. I just can't wait to get my new rings. his thing cuts almost as well as my new 330.:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

I would like to post the pictures but for some reason the go advanced is not working....grrrr that was a struggle...
