Another thought occurred to me also, seeing your new Dayton (5200). Did they make those for other brands other than Craftsman & Dayton? I have seen numerous other Poulan made saws like Montgomery Wards, Western Auto, Wizzard?, even Allis-Chalmers. But not in the large saws.

I have a 3400 that is badged as a Wizard (Western Auto), but have not seen one larger. Perhaps someone else will know.

Yup, the same happened to mine. I got the parts from ordertree.com, they were fairly cheap. Others have them too. Search on the Poulan 2775, probably a Type 1. You'll need the shield/deflector and a new side cover/brake. The new shield is revised and has more metal holding the deflector on.

Shield/Deflector: 530056256 $6.80
Side Cover/Brake: 530054803 $15.75

That's for the Type 1 muffler, which you'll have to look up as I did not buy one. You definitely want the Type 1 muffler, it's far more open than the later ones, and if your shield broke then it was likely a Type 1 to begin with.

Thanky much for this. :)

Got a few other parts for it as well. Ordertree is a great site! Never knew they existed.

S'gonna be dang near a new saw when I'm done with it!

Poulan Lovers GTG

I have decided to set a date for a Poulan Lovers GTG!!! Had to postpone it from May, due to flooding.:msp_sad:
And, I know a lot of fellas have been gettin antsy to have another one. LOL Me too! Its tough to set a date for these things, without conflicting with other GTG's and peoples different schedule's.

As of now, it will be October 8th. Unless I hear from some that would prefer, we could do it the following weekend, the 15th. Hopefully, it will be much cooler then also. Will plan on having the same kinda eats & drink as last time. So unless there is something special you want, don't need to bring anything but yourselves & some saws. :)

I think most of ya know how to get here, but if you need directions, just ask.

Gregg,

Gregg, I love the poster, and the pic, everything about it! I'm super excited to see you're still planning on doing this:clap:

LOL, Thanks, Thats about as "artistic" as it gets for me. I made that poster early this spring, and some T-shirts also. Was beginning to think I shouldn't have put the date on em..LOL We are running out of 2011 real quick.

Gregg,

I would love to be able to attend but it's a heck of a drive. :(

Hopefully Jeremy will put together a West KY GTG again in the spring. I really enjoyed meeting several of the guys there and hope to do it again.

Big Bar for Poulan 245

Hey I'm new to the list -hope I'm doing this right. I will soon aquire a 245 (been wanting one for a while). I bought my 306A new in 1975 and have since aquired a Stihl 034 and a 19T for around the yard. I have access to some rather large timber, and assuming that the saw is in good shape,

1) what is the largest bar that a 245 can realistically handle?

2) Where can I get one?

3) Anybody know of a source for a felling dog?

Thanks in advance - Perk

Congrats on landing a 245. The 306 and 245 are great saws. I'm going to run a 24" bar on a 245 when I get one. That's what I like on a 70-75cc saw. A 245 will run a 28" bar fine too. I've got bigger saws for running the bigger bars, so I'll stick with a 24" however. It would probably run a 30-32" bar OK, but it'd be 'missing the point' with a powerful, lightweight midsize saw like a 245 IMO. A 20" bar is a hoot on a powerful saw of that size. The D176 mount bar is what you're looking for. They're still in production. You can bet them from Baileys and other places. Many of 'em on feebay too. Feebay, one of the great guys here, or a parts saw are the only sources I know of for spikes/dogs for these saws.

Shot ya some Poulan 306A/245 rep so you don't look so naked here...:D

I dunno...mine handles a 20" pretty easily. My saw, a Dayton version says on it that it's a 21" bar. I'm sure you could go up in length a few inches as long as you don't get carried away. I don't think mine has a dog on it either but I'm ok with it as is.

Perk, I couldn't tell ya the largest bar the 245 can handle. A 24" is all I have had on mine. It handles it very well.
The bad thing, if you can call it that, that it gets nose heavy with long bars on them. They are a very light saw for an old magnesium 74 cc saw. Around 13 1/2 lbs.

Any bar that fits a 306,3400,3700,4000,4200,5200 etc. will fit the 245.:)
Your best bet for parts, are ebay,or site sponsor chainsawr.com, or buying a used parts saw, if your lucky enough to find one.
