There's really not much to tell as far as details.
A buddy acquired this saw some time ago and I politely asked to be "on the list" if he ever decided to get rid of it.
He wanted to pick up a saw that was more important to him and needed to increase his coffers in order to make the purchase.
He shot me a price I couldn't refuse and I've been working on my coffers to get it.
I couldn't pass up a DAYTON 5200.
You just don't see them every day!

Nice score Mike! We don't see much Dayton anything 'round here, except electric motors. The ONE local Poulan 245A I've seen here was a Dayton version, and I passed on it because the yardsale seller wanted something stupid like $150 for it (firm) and it had several broken parts. I have a neat little Dayton benchtop grinder that needs TLC after sitting in a damp storage unit for years. Budy at work gave it to me. Looks good, but has rusted up bushings/bearings...

About these old Poulans. :)

I got this saw from one of our members. It seems to run fine, but I need some parts. Does anyone have the missing parts here???=QUOTE]

Pardon my laziness, what other models cross over for parts? I will dig in the pile.

I checked the prices on ordertree and for less than 40.00 I bought the parts new. Plus shipping of course. I'm amazed at the price of these Poulan parts. I'm hoping to build a nice little screamer from this saw. I miss my 330. :msp_unsure:

Every damn thread I go to, somebodys fighting.

I was gonna ask something, but I forgot what now. I'm going back to the Pioneer thread if I can find it. Maybe I'll get lucky and pick a fight with Arrowhead.:tongue2:

Nice saws, everybody.

Tried to search the thread for "5500" and "6000", "S6000", but the search function didn't seem to like numbers. Tried Dolmar, and it still won't work? Is there an issue with the thread search function?

Anyone have one? I'm intrigued...

the 4000 is the greatest technological attribute made by Poulan for saws. Run one, it'll shock you.

the spud's are big, on the back of Bud's rig, and they're from ...... ...... ......

65 cc? That's way below my limit! Probably means it would get used a lot...

I'll keep my eyes out...if you say it's a standout model, I'd like to try one. Even if you do have poor taste in trucks...

I looked a little more at the 5500 and 6000. Sounds like they are just rebadged. I was wondering if it was more like the Jonsereds/Husky models, where there were manufacturer specific differences (apart from color).

take the clutch and the oil pump cover off. Make sure you're not leaking between the pump and the crank case. If you are, you've got a bigger problem than just a dirty floor. The oiler runs on crank impulse so if it's not sealed. you have an airleak.

Thanks for the help FG, I'll post up a pic asap.

Its not a bad homeowners saw at 42cc. Its a strato saw which some do don't like but all in .all not a bad saw

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if it is or not Nik. Surely a Poulan expert will be along soon to guide a wayward newbie. :)

Definitely not the same. Much smaller. I may have one as its the same one for the 2800,3000 and 3300.

Man that's in nice shape. Now you're REALLY killin' me Gary. If it has a good P/C, please let me have 'first dibs' if you decide to part with it. I don't mind the missing starter handle!:jester:

Got ya covered on a minty P&C but you're on your own with the handle....

Minty P/C for a 245A? That's something I'd be GREATLY interested in. With 245's as scarce as they seem to be in my area, I'm gonna have to grab whatever I can find.......................regardless of P/C condition (so I'd like to put one on the shelf 'just in case'). I WILL have a 245 some day. Maybe that Dayton that Gary is teasing me with. I can dream... I goofed and missed an NOS 245A jug on feebay a number of months ago. Forgot to set my snipe and it went for peanuts. Nobody here has fessed up to getting it!

Or are you talking about a whole 245A saw with a minty P/C, but a handle issue? I'm confused Mitch (happens a lot......like I said in another thread!). I'd be interested in a whole saw too of course. PM me if you'd like. Got little money now. More should be in the account soon. Got some trade schtuff as well...

Are you looking for the biggest actual Poulan saws? If so, then I believe you're looking for a 5200 or 8500. They are very torquey, fast cutting saws.

poulan 306A

My lovely Poulan 306A.
I know this saw has been talked over a few times but, I have one given to me by my grandpa and have recently taken to fixing it. My saw had never run since my grandpa got it from my uncle out of his barn, (dont know where it was from) grandpa tried to tune it up with what he knew, never could, and gave it to me. I had it in my garage foe 6 years or so meanwhile I bought a couple of stihls and got used to them and liked having new things that ran. I always could get it to run -sort of- and wanted more. I looked them up online and came here I rebuilt the carb and tried to tune it up. The saw does not have much power (cant cut nothing) I looked at the piston and rings and cylinder and they are damaged -gouges and such-. I know this topic is not new, but, is there any way to order new parts (piston, rings, and cylinder) I see some used on E-bay and the like and have seen a place to buy custom rings at otto gas engine works I like the idea of this saw and would like to have this one running. I have seen these saws on E-bay go for 60.00 to 150.00 and dont want to go much over that. Again I know this is not a new topic ,but, I would like to rehash it again.
Thanks, Nick.
Also the fuel cap spurts gas when it is tipped in its side Is there any fix short of a new one any help is appreciated p.s. (I am a new member) P.P.S. why did I see a wizard? that looked like a 306A It may be my imagination
