I have decided to set a date for a Poulan Lovers GTG!!! Had to postpone it from May, due to flooding.:msp_sad:
And, I know a lot of fellas have been gettin antsy to have another one. LOL Me too! Its tough to set a date for these things, without conflicting with other GTG's and peoples different schedule's.

As of now, it will be October 8th. Unless I hear from some that would prefer, we could do it the following weekend, the 15th. Hopefully, it will be much cooler then also. Will plan on having the same kinda eats & drink as last time. So unless there is something special you want, don't need to bring anything but yourselves & some saws. :)Gregg

Excellent. Sign me up for the 8th! I'll be riding with Mark. Time to drop these Jonsevarnas and pull out the Poulans.

Poulan GTG

Gregg,

Now that I am in Lexington, I checked Mapquest and it shows 250 miles or around 4 hours. I have none of my saws here and doubt that my wife would allow me to store one in the house even if I found one locally. If you don't mind me coming "sans saw(s)", I would like to come on up.

Gary,

You won't be sans saws.
Anything I bring, feel free to use as you would your own!!!

Hey I'm new to the list -hope I'm doing this right. I will soon aquire a 245 (been wanting one for a while). I bought my 306A new in 1975 and have since aquired a Stihl 034 and a 19T for around the yard. I have access to some rather large timber, and assuming that the saw is in good shape,

1) what is the largest bar that a 245 can realistically handle?

2) Where can I get one?

3) Anybody know of a source for a felling dog?

Thanks in advance - Perk

What is a felling dog?

What is a felling dog?

One that can take a tree down with a single bite...

Some refer to it as a bucking spike and it attaches to the saw chassis where the bar meets the saw.

A felling dog is (usually) a piece of stamped out metal with teeth on it that attaches to the body of a saw next to the bar.
The teeth are used to "Dog" the saw into the wood so the operator can apply leverage when they have a very long bar.

It is usually used by those (in my humble opinion) who don't know how to sharpen a chain and want to compensate for that lack by putting undue stress on their saw.
I personally have found them to be worthless on a bar less than 24" and more of a hinderance than anything.
The only real value they have to me is to keep the paint on the front of many saws from getting beat up, but a toothless plate there would serve the same purpose.
Much like "Porter Walls" and curb feelers most of their proponents think they look COOL!!!

Hello everyone, been away lately and it sure took some time to read all those posts. Looks like things have cooled down a little but what really struck me is how passionate we all are about these good old old Poulans.

Hope you guys take lots of pictures at the GTG for those on the other side of the world. I would love to bring my 4900 and 8500 along but that is just dreaming.

A question. Where can I get a piston ring for a little Micro XXV Deluxe? I think it is the 38cc one and it has a chrome piston and unplated bore. Do any of the site sponsers do Poulan parts? Ordertree will not post to me in Oz and our local distributer is McCulloch and have no idea what I am talking about. Any ideas?

Sorry about the blurry pic - got two stroke fuel on the lens.

Thanks, I appreciate the offer. I am going to Virginia next month and will remember to get my PPE.

Sorry Gary, All forms of Personal Protection Devices are strictly prohibited at a Poulan GTG!!! Especially chain brakes.:D
We try to use common sense and stay away from the business end of the saw, and if it gets too loud, just stick your fingers in your ears.

Just kidding on that,LOL PPE is welcomed, but certainly not required. As far as not bringing any saws goes. I may not bring many either. Its much more fun to see & run everyone else's neat old saws.!!! :) A chair might be an item you want to bring also. And a camera! I know every body usually wants to take a lot of pictures of saws and what not, but then gets to busy running them and forgets to take as many pics as you wanted to.:dizzy:
