Also while I am online, and there are people here, what is up with the bar and chain I got? It is an oregon I got at a hardware store. It says it will fit the 306A as well as mac homelite other poulans and more. It keeps loosening up on me, now, the holes for the guide bar bolts are egg shaped vertically and the bar adjustment pin is just small and round. Is this the wrong bar, and if so, what do I need. I already know the bar and chain I need is 3/8 and 16" to 24'

It sounds like you left out a few dimensions. Besides 3/8 pitch and bar length there is the gauge (width) and there are different bar mounts for Homelites, Poulans, etc. Sounds like you have the wrong bar for your saw.

Nick, do you hold the tip of the bar up when you adjust the chain tension and snug up the bar stud nuts? Yes, the egg shaped holes for the adjustment pin allows a single bar to be used on many saws. What are the numbers on your bar?

Me and Nik had a chance to run his ported 4000 for the first time, and I must say it has serous grunt for an old 60cc saw.

Here is a short video of the saw cutting some nasty hard Hickory.

Go get 'em....

This ad is 3 days old, but someone may want to check on it. I am out of the market, but I am sure someone can use a couple of running 5200's for $225. If you get them I only ask that I get first shot when you sell.

Poulan Chainsaws!

Crikey! Somebody here grab 'em. I doubt you'll be "stuck" with them if you decide they're not your thing. Of course you'd be a total BOOB to be knee-deep in the Poulan thread and NOT fall in love with a running Poulan 5200...

there is a 306A on ebay that looks like a good parts saw item # 300593458675 or just type in poulan 306A
LOL <CAD> I already contacted him, sems like a nice guy..sent me pics of the piston ..fubar
Thanks for the heads up just the same

Bar is correct. Did you check the adjusting screw? If the c clip is missing the screw will move.

the adjusting screw is fine I dont know if the holes in the bar are right on my stihl the adjusting pin is small and round as is the hole for it I thought the egg shaped holes for the universal bar might be causing the bar to loosen up. If it is the right bar then I might have to look at it further
thanks, Nick

If its a D176 Oregon mount, its the correct bar.

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has a spare isolator for a 4900 or would know were to get one, mine is broke, it's the hour glass one but the solid one will do.

Pp395

I finally got to use the saw and it did not disappoint! My cousins neighbor had a big maple fall from the hurricaine and his 290 just wasnt getting it done. Before we cut he stopped by to pickup his S25DA and 290, both got new chains. He asked if I had and bigger Poulans for sale. So long story short I gave him back that mint 3700 he gave me 2 years ago. I felt good, and once he made a few cuts he was happy as could be. "Wow this saw has some guts huh?" Hes getting a new 20" B/C tomm, he cut with the lousy safety chain, wait till he cuts with the good stuff!

Man that's a purdy red 3700 Joe. I remember when you put up the pics of that saw when you got it. Keep it in 'the family'. Make him swear to NEVER give/sell the saw to anyone but you!
