I just...couldn't...stand it. I had to take that shiny 245A out and give it a whirl. I think it is almost too nice to use except for like get togethers or something, then I thought, dang it, if it was a car I'd go drive it! So, I swapped over the "das boot" 20 inch bar I got yesterday, checked it over one more time, fueled it, let it warm up, checked the oiler again and went "I'm going"!
Tied the dogs except for the ancient old rat dog, she got to go where I am going, and my little white jacquelin russel mutt cutting buddy stayed home cuz she's recuperating from getting her legs run over by a dually (that is one tough doggie, up and walking now, legs still look like raw meat)
Anyway, big saw so all I am mostly doing today is dropping, once on the ground I don't care if the dogs come along. I don't like them with me if I am dropping...found out that is just a bad idea.stuck the one ancient dog in the cargo box while this was going on.
I did (pics should be in order) one big standing dead tulip poplar (first two pics), a double maple, an oak (that was a backwards leaner 180 drop, had to finish the cut with that little husky because of the smaller bar to fit into the notch once the wedge was in) and a sweetgum. Ya, pulled some fiber there..hey, it's firewood..plus it's *sweetgum* it is all "fiber" that sticks to itself.. heheheh
Feel free to critique my cuts, I am still learning a lot about it as I mostly always just cut natural blowdowns and small trees. I know they look raggy.... I was most amazed my first drop, the first cuts with grampaw, with the tulip poplar as it went exactly where I wanted it. It had to go 90 degrees to the right from the pronounced natural lean, I wanted to not damage the baby hackberry that was kissing it, directly the natural lean way, or have it damage or get hung in the larger maple just beyond it, PLUS the dang wind came up gusty and was coming from the drop zone direction. This is also the very first time I have ever used a store bought faelling wedge, I have always used home made just cut on the spot wooden ones....and standing dead from last winter it was chock fulla widdermakers so I was joe paranoid and looking up almost the whole time. Saw ran great, man I got nice piles of chips, but you sure can tell the diff between having anti vibe or not....
