Very pretty!

1956 Poulan F100
I got this saw a while ago, It had the spark plug threads striped out.
Tried to find find another cylinder for it but no luck. I did not want to put
a helicoil in it because it was not very thick right there. Then I read a post
JJ made about taping out a plug hole to 18mm and using a small block chevy plug.
So I tried that and it worked great, There was just enough room under the cover for
the plug to fit. I get nice blue spark with that plug too.

Before and after is astounding! I have a question..exactly how the heck do you *use* one of those things anyway? I have never used one, nor seen any running being used in the wood.

Nice trio there! How do you find out which Craftsmans to look at? I see them for sale, but no idea which is worth bothering to look closer at.

Thanks, I'm pretty proud of them. As far as which Craftsman saws to look at, I'm the wrong to ask. I picked that one up several years ago as a small "clean up" saw. It's worked very well and taken on more than it was designed for i'm sure. I hope someone else will step in on a good response to that question.

It depends on what you are looking for!

The prefix "358" is the Sears code for Poulan, so in my humble opinion that would be a good place to start.

Mark, I assumed the A in the model referred to it being auto oiling. I therefore surmised that an S25D was only manual. I'll be honest though I pulled the oil pump due to an air leak and there is a openning in the case for what I guess is impulse air to operate the oil pump. Therein lies my current problem. I said saw runs great and it does. However in fooling with the carb I saw the Lo needle was closed! Did a pressure test and found a leak under the oil pump. Made a gasket and it still leaks. Actually made three gaskets and it still leaks. That's where I am now. Puzzled as to why the leak persists even after using Dirko to help with sealing the pump.

Bob, I'm sorry I wrote that out wrong. You are correct that the A in the DA means auto and I was thinking 25D and 25DA forgetting the rare S25D. The S25D is not seen that often. If memory serves correct there is no impulse hole for the auto oiler in a "A" saw case. At least I'm sure there is non in a non super manual only saw so you should not have anyplace for a air leak near the pump that I can think of off hand.

Are you sure someone didnt put a manual pump on a auto oiler case? You should post up some pictures of the case and the oil pump setup to jog my memory.

Cliff, that is a great looking piece for sure. You always do nice work and that Poulan round bow is the best looking bow you have.

Thanks.
Go to the History of Bow saws Thread. Its right here in the Stickies

Yeah I like the round ones too.

I'll try to post pictures but I seem to have difficulty in doing so. What do you use to post? There is an impulse hole in the saw case as I can put my finger over it and it will hold pressure. Also the pump body holes line up with the saw case, including the impulse hole. So I guess its auto oiling but the saw's labels say "Poulan Super Deluxe 25". It will leak when I install pump. Made 4 gaskets to no avail. Don't see any cracks in the pump body. I'm almost at the point of pulling a pump from one of my other S25DA's to see what happens after the switch.

I think there are several posts in here about posting pics. I don't use photo bucket or anything else, just what's here and don't have too much trouble with it. They changed it several weeks ago and made it harder for a while but I re-learned how to do it. You might try the search, if that doesn't work PM me and I'll give you all the steps.

As for the saw, I wouldn't have a clue....

Thanks, will do a search

Hey, just wondering what spark plug does my 4900 take?? I ask because it came with a CJ8Y which I just replaced, in it, but Mike Acres site sez CJ8? I have plenty of either so, just looking for an answer.

CJ8 is what I use in all my green saws.:) I'm sure there are other brands or whatever that will work. But I just stick with good old reliable.

Well I'm about to drink a bottle of Jack as I cannot stop the air leak at the oil pump on my new S25 Super Deluxe. I got fed up and did a pressure test on my other three S25's and they all had the same problem. They leaked as well. WHAT THE #$%^. It baffles me how one can stop this leak so as to do a pressure and vacuum test. Also with air escaping I can't see how the auto oiler would function properly. Like my previous post stated I made new gaskets, tried adding sealant, all to no avail. I'm really confused. Has anyone who has these saw had the same issue? Is this a weakness in these saws and more importantly would this air leak cause a lean issue when running. Better yet how on earth has anyone fixed this leak.
