thanks zogger thats all i need to know for now:clap:

I haven't been here quite a year now, and already my saw knowledge has gone up like a hundred times or something like that. I was buying running saws, wearing them out, get a new one, for years. Now I feel confident enough to grab any junker and give it a shot. Not saying I would succeed, but it ain't voodoo anymore, either.

Learn and share, that's where it is at.

Whatcha doing with that green saw in back, hmmmmmm???

One of these days fella i'm gone put something in the pic for you background lookers to fix your butt !!
the CVA sems to turn over, who knows.

I will look for one of those mufflers. I take it the new ones will not be the same as a used one? How do I mod it? I'm assuming I open up a few more holes in it, but how big, and where? Since I deal with primarily fuel injection working on cars(save for my 66 Mustang), I'm still learning about these little carbs. What adjustments will I need to make? I know the tooless clutch cover isn't well regarded, but I honestly haven't had any issues with it(knock on some freshly cut elm wood) so far and I have always made a habit of just checking chain tension(rarely have to adjust it on used chains) everytime I start to use it or fill it up.

Nick

Edit: I just bought this on ebay. Hope it is what I needed.....Genuine Poulan 530069707 Muffler Kit OEM | eBay

When you get it, just drill the diffuser (baffle) holes straight through to the bottom, then drill the holes as big as you can go with killing the diffuser, throw the spark screen away, and your good to go, as the body of that muffler has a nice big side outlet.

Chain

Which is a better chain, Oregon LGX or Stihl RSC. I have LGX on every big saw I own, and have never used RSC, hence the question???

Both are absolutely GREAT chains!
I have had really good luck with both but I rarely ever buy a Stihl chain because the dealers are LOCO!!!

I recently bought 10 Oregon chains, 5- 20 inch 3/8ths LGX, and 5- 16 inch .325 LPX delivered to my door for $106.00.

Haven't seen any deals like that on Stihl chain EVER!!!

Your right I've checked the Stihl chain does run higher.

I agree with Mike! Most of mine are LGX. Some are Woodland Pro from Bailey's, RC30 I think it is, and I do have RSC on my 5200. All work well for me. I saw somebody was selling loops of 70dr. link loops of RSC on Ebay, same price as LGX.

Thanks! I have the filters, muffler, and a carb tool en-route now. Who would have thought I would get mod fever on a chainsaw? Now, what adjustments do I make to the needles on the carb? I read somewhere I make a quarter turn on one and an eighth-one sixteenth to the other, but I don't really know which ones are which.

I just actually read what I wrote, Lol, I ment without killing the diffuser.

Just set the saw up. Start it run it till she gets hot, then test it, if your 2 stroking at WOT free reving, adjust the H needle counter clockwise until you get a alternating 2 stroke 4 stroke sound. The 2 stroking will sound real smooth and high, the 4 stroking will sound a bit outta and rough. You got it right when the saw alternates between smooth and rough. Don't worry much about the amount of turns thats really for just a baseline when starting from scratch, like 1 to 1 1/4 turn out.

To adjust the low "L" turn the screw in till the saw runs rough, then turn it out till it runs rough, then turn it in the middle of the two.

PP336 fuel lines

I am in the process of carb rehab on this PP336 I picked up. I have new fuel line and I have a new impulse line for it. Is the vent line a smidge bigger than the fuel line? All the lines were either missing or the wonderful previous owner messed up. The holes in the tank are just a little diff in size. The vent cap is NLA, what does everyone use to help keep junk out of the vent? Thanks.

This may or may not help on your saw. I don't know, but you can check it out

The lines are both the same size. 1/8ID x 3/16OD if I remember right. The vent hole in the tank is bigger as the vent line gets the barbed fitting pulled up into the hole in the tank.

As for the vent cap, a small piece of air filter foam pushed in the open end works very well.

Here is the IPL that shows those vent parts on page 2.

Need Help with Poulan 4000 Carb

I just posted this in the Chainsaw forum and someone suggested I ask my question here on this thread. I just acquired a Poulan Counter-Vibe 4000 chainsaw today for 20 bucks. It is complete and in pretty good shape except for one part is missing, the idle adjusting screw. Searching online I have discovered that this particular part is discontinued. Does anyone know where I can find the part, or if there are other carburetors that are compatible? I have not had time yet to pull the carb off and see just what kind it is. Anyways, I hope to be able to find a replacement part for it.

I was told it has a Walbro carb, does anyone know what model?

Thanks

Carb is a Walbro HDB-8, same as for models 3400, 3700 & 3800.

I asked over there but I will ask here also.

Are you referring to the lo speed metering screw, or the idle adjustment screw?
They are WAY different critters!

Saws

Making a trip tomm bright and early to look at a bunch of saws. Ive bought from this guy before, got 2 3400s (one was a parts saw) and a nice white top 61 husky. He said he has a bunch of saw and more Poulans too. Ive paid my dues and Im hoping I find a 4200 and up series saw! But beggars cant be choosers so Ill be happy with what I get.
Also, in the middle of a 3400 craftsman right now. I was gonna go thru it and sell it but boy this one cleaned up nice! Also tried my hand at my fist muffler mod. Not the super cool style that Mark and a few others have done, but the simple 4000 style. Came out alright. The saw is low hour for sure.

Joe thats all these mufflers really need is a slit on the side and it works just as good as the flashy exhaust pipe. I've been doing the slit more and more just because it's easy.
