During a break I took from adjusting the valves on my Mustang, I took a look at that 2300. The saw is in great shape but the hard start might have something to do with the near zero compression. So, since I'm not too interested in building a big bore 2300, I have almost every part besides the piston and cylinder available for anyone who needs something. Shoot me a PM and let me know what you need, it's yours for the cost of shipping. Since I've been screwed by sending parts over the border, I can only offer this for US residents unfortunately.

Another project that wasnt quite as represented. :givebeer:

I have been looking for a slick 3000 for sometime and ran across this one. They said it ran, well yes it will for a few seconds before it dies. They didnt show the right side of the saw, what the hell happend to this clutch cover? :ices_rofl: And yes it was shipped with this bar and chain on it as well. Wonder how well it cut, that is when it used to run.....

The bright side is that the P/C are perfect, like new! The oiler puts out like the prom date of your dreams and it has a rim and drum setup on it as well. It also didnt cost a whole bunch either.

So I think "when" I get time, I'll go through the fuel system and find a new clutch cover for it. It will get a muffler mod and a new bar tip to replace the bananna nosed one thats on it now.

Should end up quite well.

Mark I hope you hate this saw so much you just have to get rid of it... I really want another one! I think they are one of the most underrated 50cc saws out there!

My grandpa was a poulan man. I'd say from the early eighties (as far back as I can recall) to 1990 or so he was cutting with a poulan. I know it was green and have no idea what model it could have been. My grandmother does not know when or who he sold the saw to, but I have been wondering what model it could have been. From what I recall it was green and appeared to be a mag case. Any ideas or pics? I would like to acquire one some day.

Hey Nick, nice post. I have a couple of these that I have not had time to get to. After the ground freezes, I might need something. Just not sure yet.

It could be lots of models, Poulan made lots of green saws. If anyone has a good memory they might look at some pics in here of what the members have. If it was a smaller saw he may have had a version of the 25 series as thousands were sold. If it was a larger saw the choice gets bigger, there were lots of them, 245, 306 etc. I think most, if not all of the older saws had a mag case.

Poulan Pro 655 - What is their reputation for durability and longevity ??

I've got a chance to buy one and decided to post up here to ask the Poulan enthusiasts what to look for and inquire as to what a good price is. Asking $200 for it and it's a one owner saw....well the seller's father bought it new and it got to be too much saw for him as he got into his 70's .

Soo what's the reputation on this saw??

I would go nab that saw FAST!! If you don't like it I would be happy to take it off your hands any time? LOL Big bad ass saw right there! These guys on here can tell you everything you will want to know about it.All I can tell you is I want one LOL

I would still check it out closely, one owner doesn't mean much with chainsaws...depends on who the one owner was!

Poulan Pro 655

Sooo I'm doing some research on the 655 and run across this "divider" issue that is discussed in the attached posts below. How common is that problem as I DO NOT want to have to F-around with that kinda crap. Seems to be pretty poor Poulan engineering design work to have two separate fluid compartments separated only by an epoxied in divider....especially with the vibrations a 6 cube saw produces!??

I need a saw that is a good runner and has the durability to not be plagued by a design flaw problem such as a divider falling out. I don't need buy a 655 and then later on have my spirits drop down in the "wale poo poo" depths such as what 67L36Driver was dealing with his 655 divider issue.

We are hitting highs and lows on this Poulan 655/Pioneer P62.

Yesterday afternoon I had that puppy running good. I wanted to take it out to the farm and try it out. This morning I filled the oil tank to check for bar oiling and it took a lot of oil. W.T.H.?? Fired it up and it ran worse and worse and finally quit. Smoked like the devil. According to DSS some kind of plastic divide has fallen out of place between the oil tank and fuel tank.

How do you fix that. Split the cases? Or, is there a way around that?

Don't see it (the divider thing) in the IPL I have. I flushed both sides with mineral spirits and will repeat with lacquer thinner and let it dry completely. Wish I could see in there to figure something out.

Our spirits are lower than wale poo-poo.

According to the Poulan service bullitin you need to split the case to do it, but Chris has done his just working through the tank hole.

Do you still have the original divider?

The main thing before it is epoxied back in is that it has to be clean, clean, clean.

*** EDiIT *** Even on Thanksgiving day the demand for the Poulan 655 is high......the guy lived about 72 miles away from me and I was planning on going by later in the afternoon.........he just called me back to tell me that it was sold. Bummer.............

That divider seems to be not that big of deal and while it happens to have its problems, it's not like it happens all the time to every saw.

BTW that 655 is based on a Pioneer design and was taken over by Poulan Pro after the electrolux buy outs and shake ups.

Your right though if you need a every day saw you really dont want to mess with that old of a saw do you? You should go buy a newer Stihl, Husqvarna or Dolmar.

I will help you raise a little money to put down for a newer saw by getting that 655 and sending it to me. Thats the kind of nice guy that I am. Just pm me the details.

Lost out on the 655.........

I have a Homelite 1050 that is a project currently and that is why I was looking for another big/6 cube saw that was actually running and ready to use. How does the Poulan 655 run out powerwise compared to the other 6 cube saws??

How many Poulan/Pioneer saws with the "divider issue" have you encountered?? I realize that I went off a bit on that particular design flaw....just don't understand why the compartments wouldn't be better separated in a piece of machinery that has a fair amount of vibration and harmonics associated with it!???

I would have bought the saw if it looked to be in good shape and seen how it ran out .........unfortunately for me someone else ran out and bought it before I could get there........who would have thought it on T-day !!???:laugh:

I'ts one of the strongest 6-ci chainsaws ever produced.

I would have been there! :blob2: I already have one, but for that price I'd have been forced to take a ride. Glad I didn't have to make that decision.

It will hang well with any other 6 cube saw. The divider does not seem to be that big of deal......

Unfortunatly you wavered on a good deal, and now you wont have it. BTW it took me less then 2 minutes to find that saw add after I read your post. Way too easy, but it was gone before I found it anyway. I would have owned if for that money.

Don't look now but AngryBeavers has a nice saw up for auction. Actually too nice looking to use!

POULAN 5200 85CC CHAINSAW 28" BAR BIG BLOCK POWER CHECK THIS ONE OUT!!!!!!!!! | eBay

Yep, Lance come up with a nice one. If it brings his price will be answered in time.

Really a great saw like that should be worth quite a bit though, and you can get alot tied up in them just to get them to that conditoin and that dont include hours and hours of time spent on them.

I put a full wrap just like that one on the one that I restored and really like how it moved your left hand forward. With that handle and the extended 5400 rear handle/tank assy your hands will really be spread apart and offfer some great control that way.

Another one sold on ebay not too long ago, as nice as that one or better, that I would much rather have had.
Still mad that my funds were so depleted when it sold!!!
