Nice! Is that a NOS bar, or close to it, or what? I haven't been able to find anything reasonable beyond a 20 for mine. Brand new is not happening for awhile.

Yes it is a NOS bar, there are a stack of them in 28" 3/8 and 36" .404 some are in better shape than others but never been on a saw just moved around a lot.

Had to post this pic.
bar oiler filler cap off a 306a.

That's indeed a standard "old school" B&S oil filler cap as used from the late '60s until the present. You can get one at any mower shop, as well as in the garden aisle of your local box store or hardware store. Many Remington saws used 'em too.

Yep the B&S cap screws right on in the 306/245.

Here is my new Craftsman/Poulan. Got a chance to run it on Thanksgiving, and so far I think this is my favorite saw to run, forgot to take the camera with me.

And thanks to Mark for the info on Heating the muffler to mod it.

I took my 5400 out also and noticed that when it was on its side the idle went down like it richened up, from reading on here if the idle goes up it is leaning out and could be crank seals. Could the seals make it idle down also. I'm making an adapter so I can put a vaccum gauge on it.

Thanks Scott

Your muffler turned out pretty good! It will make it run better.

What side is your 5400 laying on when its acting rich? Bar side down? Is it smoking as well when laid on that side?

The oiler actully runs in bar oil right on that PTO side seal and will suck bar oil into the crankcase if the seal is leaking. If you suspect seals, just change them out, there easy as any to do on that saw. Not worth risking a top end for.

I have the generic Timkin seal #s here somewhere if you need them.

Saw is basically a 3700 with a few 4000 amenities like AF cover and sometimes recoil pulley and/or muffler. Generally accepted to run 20" bar on a 3.7 c.i. (61 cc) saw. Mine runs well but doubt you could bury a 24" in hard wood.

Well, I've had my Craftsman 3.7 (3800...the gray one) buried in oak with a 24" several times, and it kept chugging along with RSC33 chain. That's full comp chisel 3/8"
.050 for the newbies. A 375 with the improved muffler and filter from the 4000 should be even better. I'll let ya know, as I got a 375 on the bench waiting on a set of rings right now. There's a 30" maple waiting on it.

Silly newbie question here, but I have to ask......I have a handful of S25s and DAs that currently have 1/4" chains and sprockets on them. Can I replace the sprocket with a 3/8" one and add a matching .050" bar and chain?

You can replace the 1/4" sprocket with a 3/8" LP sprocket. Is your bar a sprocket tip or hardnose? If it's a hardnose and .050G, then you can run 3/8" LP .050G chain on it. Otherwise, you can easily replace that bar and chain with a 3/8" LP set. The sprockets are still available new from Baileys and other sources. Bars are cheap and available for these saws from the same places too.

Ya it'll chug along with 24'' in hard wood... but Steve AKA ''67mustang'' is used to some BIG POULAN POWER buried in hard wood and I'd be talking about his 77cc 7700:msp_scared: which is one of the finest best running poulans that I've ever ran in my hands at the Poulan Lovers GTG! That saw don't chug anything but 2stroke mix!!!

That's good because I got 3 sprockets from Bailey's today and have bars and chains due in Wednesday from them also. I went with 14" Oregon combos since these will be pruning/limbing saws for me.

Thanks for the info, I should have confirmed before I ordered, but I assumed right this time.

Poulan 4200 generic seal #

Hi mark
If you have the generic seal #'s I'd sure like them, I keep getting back ordered on all my orders. (inventory time soon) And shipping on two seals is crazy. My 4200 needs one or more and maybe I can find some closer. I really want this saw going, it just has run away idle but a great saw otherwise.

was able to score a poulan farm pro 375 right before t'giving. the owner died and his wife said it ran well. i didn't have any mix with me and neither did she so i just bought it; for the price i couldn't go wrong. just got to play with it yesterday. it runs well. questions is, what size bar will this saw pull?

I have one of those and really love it. Mine has a 20" bar which is fine for our hard woods. Seems a good fit to me.

New to me Poulan 5200

Hello all. I am new to the Poulan thread, but not to AS. I just recently got a 5200 that is going to need some attention, but I it for next to nothing ($20). The saw looks to have been sitting up for some time as it has a thick coat of shop dust and sand all over it. The handlebar and all the right side parts, except oil pump, are missing, but the good news is the piston looks good, best I can tell. My plan is to go through the fuel system, install new crank seals and piston ring, and replace the missing parts. I hope I can find these parts. Any leads on parts would be appreciated. I have attached pics.

Mark it is the bar side and does smoke. As soon as it did that I shut it down,This saw is my pride and joy and got me started on these saws. If you could get me the Timkin #s I would be greatfull.

Thanks Scott

No problem, soon as I get to the shop to find those #'s again, I'll post them up. I know I posted them before but searching here is not too productive sometimes.
