Hello all. I am new to the Poulan thread, but not to AS. I just recently got a 5200 that is going to need some attention, but I it for next to nothing ($20). The saw looks to have been sitting up for some time as it has a thick coat of shop dust and sand all over it. The handlebar and all the right side parts, except oil pump, are missing, but the good news is the piston looks good, best I can tell. My plan is to go through the fuel system, install new crank seals and piston ring, and replace the missing parts. I hope I can find these parts. Any leads on parts would be appreciated. I have attached pics.

Nice later model 5200. Looks like a nice restore project.

Parts can be a problem but there are quite a few side covers on ebay right now and might be a handle also.

The clutch from a later 306-245 can be used on there if needed. Basiclly the same. Bar plates from lots of models are the same as well.

20 schlomoleians is not too shabby for a nice project saw like that. Good luck with your rebuild.

angry_beavers on eBay just posted up several parts today including clutch and sprocket. (While you're there you can drool over his nicely restored, high priced Poulan 5200 for sale.) Custom Chainsawparts has a number of clutch covers to choose from. Not sure about a front handle.

Ya it'll chug along with 24'' in hard wood... but Steve AKA ''67mustang'' is used to some BIG POULAN POWER buried in hard wood and I'd be talking about his 77cc 7700:msp_scared: which is one of the finest best running poulans that I've ever ran in my hands at the Poulan Lovers GTG! That saw don't chug anything but 2stroke mix!!!

Compared to a 7700, yeah, it would seem sluggish, but it ain't far behind my brothers 575xp with the same B&C setup. I am not impressed by that saw at all. Mabey I just got a good one, and he got a bad one. I wouldn't go with anything bigger on the 3.7 variants though.

3000 mostly done

Got a chance to clean her up and found the main malfunction, the impulse hose was crumbling and so were the fuel and vent line.

Wish they were all this easy, just new lines, carb kit and a muffler clean up and mod and shes up and running better then new. Nice little saw that I entend to use.

I have a new tip for the bar coming to replace the control tip and I also have a brand new clutch cover coming and I have a new decal for it here already.

I know you like pictures so....

loveit!!!

Thanks for that thought but you missed the part about I have a brand new one ordered for it from Poulan. A whole $14 worth. Dang ebay guys want more then that for a beat up used one. :hmm3grin2orange:

cant wait for a video of her cutting it up!

Probably a silly question here, but since I'm still new, I don't have good questions yet. I'm working on some of my new(to me) S25s and DAs, and am trying to build 2 good runners that I can strip down and paint up so they look brand new. So far I am only able to distinguish the differences as the on/off switch and some of the recoil starter pulleys are metal vs. plastic. Are the points and condensors interchangeable between the two saws? Also, how do I remove the handle assembly once I remove the lower cover, the allen bolts around the carb, and the screw at the back of the handle. It appears to be hanging up on the manual oil linkage. I do have the service manual that Mark sent me already, and have consulted that already.

I guess I also need to ask if some had electronic ignitions that still had the bosses in the case for points too.

Thanks for any advice.

Nick

Mark, if you keep posting those sexy pictures of the 3000 Poulans I will never be able to afford one.:smile2:
The price of them down here is getting down right out of control. I think I am going to start posting about how unreliable they are. I hate spending more than twenty dollasrs on a saw.:msp_unsure:

Poulan 4200 seals

So anyone know how to get seals for a 4200??? I've order them twice and looks like I'll never get them, all backorder from factory to HELL FREEZES over!!!
I've tried a few generic # but they don't even show up anymore.
This is my last try!!! I'm starting to really hate this saw for something as small as a $7.99 seal.

Thanks in advance
Duane

There are two screws under the saw, one on each side, over the flywheel and over the clutch. One is hard to get to but can be removed. You don't have to remove the manual oil button to remove the handle as it'll come off with the manual oil rod still on the saw. I believe you can switch between points and elec. ig. but not sure if flywheels are the same. All mine are points saws.

No doubt about it, Poulan parts are fairly priced. If that was a Stihl that cover would probably be closer to fifty dollars.

I wonder if there's a Craftsman equivalent? I was really surprised when Sears had rings for my micro saw!
