I had a super 2/XL for about a week. Tore it down, and decided to give it away. I didnt like the plastic split case, the carb setup, or the oil resvoir. That being said, I know guys like them and seem to be a decent saw, similar to an S25. They are NOT the same like others said. The S25 is a sleeper to someone who isnt familiar with them. I know Mark has said that he put some Homelite SXLs to shame with his Super XXVs. I ran my dads S25DA, against my cousin running his dads XL12, beat him time after time in 12"-16" maple. So putting it against a XL/super2 woulldnt be much competition.

Well, my S25CVa is partly together. Did see an arrow inside the piston so I installed piston with arrow pointed toward exhaust. Don't know if thats its purpose, though. Because there are no ring pins, I installed rings with ring end gap towards intake, making sure ring end gaps were not under each other. Again not sure what my options were. If anyone knows different let me know before I get this thing fired up.

Bob,

Where did you get that kit???
I just checked the piston kit I have here because I thought the new piston I just put in my S25DA had pins and the new piston I have here HAS pins!!!
My piston says EXH and has an arrow.
The pins are at 7 and 11 o'clock on the intake side.

Mike, got the used piston and cylinder from a guy I had purchased an earlier S25da, on Ebay. No "exh." on top of piston nor ring pins. Funny thing is my bad piston I took out didn't have anything either. I simply installed rings at about 7 and 11 oclock. There is an arrow but its on the inside wall of the piston. I used that as a reference. Think I'll shoot the guy an email and ask. He sells alot of S25DA's on Ebay so he must have run across this issue.

mike how is the saw holding up ?

by the way the 5200 air filter is sold already but im sure i will have more parts for the 5200 series

i do know i have two side bar covers for the 4000

i also have some decals for the older poulans

Calvin,

The kit was perfect, as was the cylinder!

The saw starts, runs, cuts and idles like a new one.
My buddy Fatguy is working some magic on the bar clamp bolt assy. and that saw will be a keeper.

Thanks for all of your help,

Mike

Poulan S25CVA OIL Pump

Well, installed piston and cylinder and did a leak test. There is a bad air leak around the oil pump. Has me baffled as I'm not sure how to fix it. Seems to be leaking at bottom of pump area near saw body where gasket doesn't cover. Has anyone had this problem and how did you address it? Wonder if I need to find a new pump or at least a gasket, diaphragm kit(good luck with that).

New to me (used) HS168A carb showed up this week. Today did the full rebuilt treatment on it. New fuel line, new filter, new spark plug. Set High and Low speed needles both 1 turn out from light seat.

SHE IS ALIVE! The 4200 is quite the machine! Just ran the powerhead for a few minutes to make sure it ran, and boy it runs well! Oil was burbling from the oiler, so that is definitely working well, too. Can't believe the rumble it makes compared to the little 40cc units we are usually running.

Now that I'm positive it runs, going to do the whole paint strip treatment. Then it will get a completely new paint job -- of course in some sort of lime green! Redunshee, if you don't end up liking that Duracoat, and don't want to use it, could I buy it from you? I don't care if the color doesn't match up well compared to original. I just want it to stick out and look decent.

I have missing screws here and there on the cover. I'll pick up some new ones -- if holes are stripped, I'll drill and tap a hair larger. Last we'll put on a new bar and chain, and will get full pictures of the finished product. Thanks for all the help and suggestions, guys!

Love this old 4200, I do.

I am going to have to have a set of rings and a new piston for my S25DA. The exaust side of the piston is scored and the bottom ring is stuck. I am pretty sure that the cylinder will clean up and be fine. Any know where a piston and rings can be had?
