Oooooooooooooh. Nice saw Mark, congratulations. I bet if you advertised it as a Wildthing Magnum you would get at least a hundred bucks.

Al.

I have to admit I cleaned the saw up some but it wasnt bad at all. The seller had done the carb and fuel line but I think I will have to change out that fuel line as it appears to be a 1/4OD line and is not real tight in the tank. I have been there before.

The pictures make it look a little better then it is also, as it has some paint spiders and some slight corrison in a few spots. I will leave it as is though unless it starts getting any worse.

Karl, if the allentown pa 8500 is even close to this saw in condition I'll be kicking myself but that seller I talked to didnt sound like it was anything near like this and he just gave me a bad feeling about the whole deal, so I didnt persue it any farther. I have learned to trust my feelings like that and am useally right. Too much money to gamble sight unseen.

There was no stealing this saw, the seller knew what he had and had it priced fairly. Its just cool to find a almost never used saw like this though. I will run it for fun now and again but it wont see any heavy use. Just GTG's and such.

Nick, your 4000 is clean, yes it is.

Clean is not really the word I would use to describe this one, unused would fit it better.

Look at the pictures, there is hardly no pait missing in the slot of the chain adjuster! Stuff like that is what blows me away on this one.

You have a standing invetation to run this saw anytime you want to venture out of the Peoples Republik of Illinois. :ices_rofl:

I dont think your all that far away, I can be in Chicagos south side in a hour from here.

That's what I noticed about your saw! The adjuster screw was like brand new! Seriously, what was the story on it? Did somebody buy it just to try out a bow? Thought when they bought a Poulan, it would just fall apart and decided it was a real saw and they couldn't handle the power?

Nick

You probably aren't real far from me, I live way out west(50 miles from the lake(if anyone has to ask which one....) it takes us about 2:15-30 to get to the Wolcott/Remington area.

I will need to stop by some Saturday, but we will wait until the weather warms up. I will bring the 4000 and a slick S25 if I get them finished and you can critique my work.

Nick

Nick, I think we need to ask Saw Dr about the history and if he got any from the owner as he picked it up for me. Rep that man anytime you get the chance.

I'm only about 15-20 minutes east of I65 if your making a trip that way.

Where abouts? Off 80 and 65? Or are you south a bit like Route 30? I would have to make the trip solo because my wife and daughter wouldn't understand. That and they seem to pack the whole house if we go home for a weekend, and we don't drive SUVs or anything real big. Usually, by the time we leave, there's barely room for us in the car.

Well, thought I had my S25CVA up and going. However, now it dies after a minute or so at idle and dies at wot. Apparently not getting gas or possibly flooding out. Also needs at least 12 pulls to start it and seems to flood real easy. May have to pull carb and recheck it. Did this at least 4 times this week so I need a break. Running out of patience.

South of 30, off route 10.

Yep, you got something screwed up!

Sorry dont know how else to say it. :msp_biggrin:

Glad to see it put back together. I didn't like the looks of that fuel line either. I decided to get into a box and out of my shop before I touched it too much. Things have a problem of growing roots here.

To think I had that saw running in my hands and 20' away from a nice oak log, and I decided NOT to pop it's cherry.

So, is there a story to go along with that saw? Inquiring minds want to know!

And popping it's cherry would have been between you and the saw, unless you go bragging about it in the locker room, then everyone knows by lunch. Of course, if I was to do something like that, I would have hit a lagbolt or something like that in the wood.

i was just out there to!

i was just out cutting with mine man those lil saws cut fast dont feel bad i thought mine was dialed in but it seemed like it was running leaner then i would want out of the cut.. so of course once you mess with the setting on the carb i end up resetting it then cutting and messing with it ...that lil saw gets it even with a 14 inch safety chain LOL!

Mark,
Concerning the 8500 in Allentown....My uncle said he dealt with a younger guy, computer savvy, who was told by his boss who owned saw, to sell it.
He said the guy/kid knew it was a big saw, no allegiance to green whatsoever. If your saw pictured was a 10, his 8500 is a solid 8. And that's being a pessimist. I dont think it has had over 50 fill ups. Shiny paint all over.

on a different note... made 1.5 gal. of light amber this afternoon. boiling rate is around 12 gal./hr. right now. 100% home made setup.
18x48 stainless pan, "extended" barrel stove. 6 ft. stack. squirrel cage blower out of old air conditioner pointed in the draft works awesome.
had flames coming out top of stack.

lets not forget about the fuel tank fittings that homelite jim needs.....I need a sketch or something....

I am on the lookout for a tank fitting as there are a few piles of used up poulan's around here. right now I am getting some tygon to squeeze through the hole and fit on the carb and filter but is only a temporary fix as I have found with my 5400 some fuel will leak when the saw is on its side but so far my 8500 is sealed tight.

That's something I always wanted to make, but I don't have any sugar maples on the farm. I did buy some Vermont 2 weeks ago and UPS managed to run a forklift through BOTH gallons and the boiled cider. Bet that was a hell of a mess to clean up, lol.

Yea, they have alot of grunt. I may switch carbs and see if it is indeed the carb. Think I'll use a Tillotson instead of the Walbro seeing as some of my saws came with the Tillotson setup. I know its the carb, but I want to hear and see the saw run.
