Yea, they have alot of grunt. I may switch carbs and see if it is indeed the carb. Think I'll use a Tillotson instead of the Walbro seeing as some of my saws came with the Tillotson setup. I know its the carb, but I want to hear and see the saw run.
Bob

Forgot. The main problem is you have to remove the carb cover to adjust the carb. As a consequence when you put the cover back on it affects the running of the saw.

Mark,
Concerning the 8500 in Allentown....My uncle said he dealt with a younger guy, computer savvy, who was told by his boss who owned saw, to sell it.
He said the guy/kid knew it was a big saw, no allegiance to green whatsoever. If your saw pictured was a 10, his 8500 is a solid 8. And that's being a pessimist. I dont think it has had over 50 fill ups. Shiny paint all over.

on a different note... made 1.5 gal. of light amber this afternoon. boiling rate is around 12 gal./hr. right now. 100% home made setup.
18x48 stainless pan, "extended" barrel stove. 6 ft. stack. squirrel cage blower out of old air conditioner pointed in the draft works awesome.
had flames coming out top of stack.

lets not forget about the fuel tank fittings that homelite jim needs.....I need a sketch or something....

Yes that is the same story I got, the guy was selling it for his boss. He voluntered to send me pictures and a video but never did, so thats why I let it go. It gave me a uneasy feeling about the seller. Not a big deal, glad it went to a good place. I'm going to PM you about the fitting.

Glad to see it put back together. I didn't like the looks of that fuel line either. I decided to get into a box and out of my shop before I touched it too much. Things have a problem of growing roots here.

To think I had that saw running in my hands and 20' away from a nice oak log, and I decided NOT to pop it's cherry.

Sorry to dissapoint like the young ladies sometimes do but this saw was not exactly virgin. It had maybe been in a cut or two but very little.

Did the owner have any stories at all about it?

Well, I think I fixed my S25CVA. Replaced carb and it still wouldn't run. I noticed that with the cover off it took forever for the fuel to get to the carb. I tried sucking thru the fuel line and almost turned blue. The new filter was clogged! Maybe it was a bad one as I split and cleaned the tank beforehand. Put in another filter and Voila'. Fired right up, ran and idled. Will try it in wood tomorrow as I don't want to upset the neighbors on Sunday. Sometimes its the simplist things.
Bob

BTW, member sent me a video of the 346XP I bought. Dang that thing ran great. Its a NE with unlimited coil and muff mod.
Neal did a great job on the saw. Can't wait to get it in Vermont when I'm there next week.

ok need some advice....

i have been pulling my collection of poulan 25da saws and cutting wood and what not today ..... they were all stored on the shelf for about 6 months maybe a lil more ran them out of fuel before storing ive noticed my fuel lines are super stiff they were all pretty new.. besides the saws fuel lines im wondering would the diaprhams get stiff also? and all these saws seem to be running a lil hotter then they should the plugs seemed brown but..i have all the screens out so the carbs are comin in low neddle about 1 and 3/8 to get a good throttle response and at 1 and 1 1/4 on the hi of course im makin rapid cutts like 10 to 15 at a pop i would never cut back to back like that in the real world.... so by drillin the baffles as large as possible and pulling the screens do i need to open up the h even more?????or am i just pushing the saws to hard? they sound and run perfect with one or 2 cuts but seem to get very hot doin 10 to 15 cuts as fast as i can.....oh im running at 32 to 1 fuel ratio thanks so far 3 saws and all three act the same?????

The fuel line stiffness is likely ethanol induced.. As brown plug isn't bad. In fact it should be light brown to
grayish. You don't want white. I'd.use a little less oil, say 40/1. None of my saws have the lo and hi needles open as much as yours.I

im not sure...

im not sure what im gonna do i have the better oregon line now so i will probably redo all the fuel lines filters and carb kits.....i looked at the pistons and they all seemed slick not all dry and brown....yea plug was a light brown it looked perfect.... they just smelled really hot could be from running them like a race car in pine....

weird...

so i pulled 2 more and they are acting boggy ... picked one of the others up from early on in the day its running pretty decent now was sitting on my outside table for the last 6 hours... could the diaprams be all stiff also like the lines are? and once the gas gets in them they limber up and work better????i swear im close to redoin all the filters lines and kits for all of them ... starting to think your better off leaving fuel in them with a stabilizer and not running them dry when you store them.... and just pull emm once a month and run them.....what do ya all do? think its time to clean up pick up and walk away i can feel my BP goin up!!!!!

If the lines were subjected to a high concentration of ethanol before they were run dry, the lines will stiffin faster. My experiance is the carb diaphragms are probably still ok.

Just never leave E-10 in the saw for any extended time (a couple weeks) period before running dry and you will be fine.

Mark you told me to remind you this weekend about measuring 200/300 series crank seals. Almost forgot to remind you. I should have had somebody else here remind me to remind you......:dizzy:

Why do the uninformed think that EVERY damn tree is an Oak? If these people knew how badly I hate silver and swamp maples they wouldn't email me to come take them away. I guess NO MAPLE isn't clear enough. Looks like I'm going to have to require a picture from now on.

Ahh, your too late. I have not been feeling well but did make it to the shop for awhile. Worked not on saws but the table for my lathe. I didnt think about the seals and I'm in, showered and done for the day. :msp_biggrin: Going to be a early bedtime as well. I'll try to get a look this week though.

I'm with you, no stinking Maples for me either...

Right about now I would kinda like to have a couple!:msp_sad:

And here I am burning some old junk Post Oak tonight. Most people around here will thumb their nose at it (since we have so much Red Oak) but it makes a better fire and burns longer than Red, just a ##### to split as it is usually all twisted and knotted up.

No sweat Mark. I won't get to that point with those saws for a while yet. I'm in the same boat. Feeling lousey. On antibiotics for bronchitis, which came on at the tail end of a nasty flu bug. Still not feeling right. Now everybody else in the family is getting sick as I'm getting better. Been on babysitting/nursemaid duty for the whole weekend................when I wasn't busy fixing the screen door or taking a load of garbage to the dump. No saw stuff for me at all this weekend other than a bit of computer time, and fiddling with the Dayton in the garage a bit.

Aaron I know how you feel, the ole ladys kinda ill as well.

I want to dig into those seals deeper anyway, I know I kinda struck out right away when I first attempted to find replacements but then found originals and dropped the search for the time being.

Was you lucky on the orange cover for it?

Still a couple days left on the auction. Hope nobody tries to outbid me. I can always run the green cover or repaint it. The seller's asking a bit much for shipping...

Somebody paid something like $35 shipped for a used 245A AF cover, AF element, carb, intake manifold, reeds, and flywheel today. I had the auction on my 'watch' list, hoping the seller would relist it with less than a $24.95 shipping charge. Somebody fired one $9.95 bid (the minimum) at the last minute.

All those parts would've easily fit into a $11 USPS priority mail flat rate box, as would the cover I'm bidding on. I understand that guys are having to 'pad' their shipping charges a tad to 'make up' for the fees ebay is charging........................but this is getting rediculous.......

There does seem to be more than a little of the fee recovery going on. Really have to watch what you are bidding on, and like before, figure it in. If I were a seller, I would try to watch that, as it would seem to me you are opening an avenue to lower feedback for reasonable shipping.

I'm wondering if it might be better to try to find some of that black, shiny fuel line like came on lots of saws when they were new. I guess it's neoprene, not real sure. It seemed to hold up for a long time. My yellow fuel line all turned brittle also in about a year. Or maybe it's the fuel I should change.
