thanks ya all!

cool a pp445 or 475 would be cool... thanks guys now the hunt begins:hmm3grin2orange:

There is no connection of that 1957 Beaird compressor to Poulan chainsaws.

Charles T Beaird didn't buy into the Poulan company till 1959.

Up till that time, Charles Beaird was a executive with a Shreveport LA steel fabricating company and that is probably the connection to that tank.

Bah. Splitting hairs. Beaird himself is the connection I was refering to. Same guy bought into Poulan 2 years after that tank was built, and his dang name was on both of 'em. Built in the same city. Some of the same money was involved in both ventures. Were the compressor tanks (and other stuff with Beaird's name on them) not being made once he bought into Poulan? Have a High Life dammit....

Then there's the Allis Chalmers TexRope Drive pully system that was on the ancient Ingersol-Rand vacuum pump that was elsewhere in the same building (since 1933 or so). I popped that tag off of that belt pully before they scrapped it (was thinking about sending it to you or Mike since you're AC men). AC sold rebadged Poulan chainsaws (but not in 1933 of course). It's all interconnected I tells ya........

Been away for a couple weeks and really missed my Poulan hits. Picked up the 6000 last night on the way home from the airport. Other than the rear broken handle, a missing muffler bolt and the redneck starter handle it looks like it is going to be OK. Best of all the piston a cylinder are in great shape - always a worry with old saws. Already received a new handle so all I need is some time to get into it. Will post up more pics as I go. Sorry about the pic quality - my good camera turned out to be not as waterproof as I thought - hope the travel insurance is good.

Poulan/Craftsman 3800

Finally got my rings installed. Somewhat disappointed in the comp as it registered 120psi. Imagine it will increase somewhat after the rings seat but I doubt it'll reach 135-140. Seems to run good however with the muff mod and widened cylinder exhaust port.

I put a pic of Big Birtha on a while back.I just finally got around to putting the bow on it.I feel sorry for anyone who ever had to use this monster! :msp_scared: Some day when I get caught up more I will get it cleaned up and fired up!Got to see what its like to cut with? LOL If nothing else it sure looks bad a$$ :D

Al, you done well, thats a nice 6000. Did you get that handle from ebay?

Get your back brace out when you go to use that thing though, there not lite weights.

I did get the handle from the US eBay site you suggested. Those guys had it to me in 6 working days - great service. You are right about the weight, it must be 20lbs.
Dolmar certainly knows how to put a finish on a saw. It is rock hard and very scratch resistant, keeping its color well. Pity my US Poulans are not as well preserved.

So I saw some cool saws at the swap
Meet today, one was a dayton 245/306 style saw with some sort of gear drive unit and a bar with teeth on one side and no chain. The other which I bought for 25 dollars was a 306sa with powersharp and a decompression valve. Is that hard to come by on these saws?

No the decomps are fairly common but only came on the SA/Powersharp models.

You done well on a SA but you screwed up pretty bad by not picking up that Dayton blade saw. There pretty scarce and kinda prized by collectors.

I just finished this little hotrod today. Havent had a lot of time between doing my spring cleanups and plastering my daughters closet (2 months to go) and in 2 weeks Im gutting and redoing the bathroom!
back to the saw, its probably a mid-80s 25, good shape and has real strong compression, I know I have to replace the rope soon cause the way ipulls over its only a matter of time. It was an ebay deal, (the one I paid $35 in shipping for!) but it had a new tygon fuel line. I thought I may get lucky and not need to rebuild the carb, but it needed to be done. It runs great but I found out today that the IGN switch doesnt work. This is the 2nd one Ive come across. I am gonna order a new switch, that should fix it. Should be SUPER fast with that little 12" bar. I got it with a NON Banana bar but I didnt have a chain for it which is why its wearing the 12" and lousy safety chain.

I don't know what you use to view vids, but I use this

VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework!

I run linux but they have it for windows and whatnot as well. Plays anything. I don't fool with browser embedded stuff, I find the real url for the vid and slap it into VLC, either as a network stream or I download the vid first then play it as a file (that works better for me on a not so fast connection and an older machine).

Saws...those are your retirement saws! Something to sell as you get older and they become more valuable... they are *investments*...

That's your story and stick to it ;)

finally...

Well, that's a lotta scratch man. I got around 300 clams into my now over 30 used saws. I'd guess I'd like to be able to get 300-500 dollar saws, but seeing as how that is two weeks to a months pay for me..ain't happening anytime soon. I have to swap or be real lucky scrounging to get any. Still haven't found a nice big one yet, could use one really.

Oh the plan..it really is a retirement plan for me, once I hit one hundred runners, I figure I will have enough experience in repairs to be able to open a modest shop, then they will be for sale/swap. Not a hotrod shop like a lot of guys here do, I haven't even started doing that yet, just some place harry homeowner and joe farmer can come get some simple repairs at affordable prices, or swap in the busted one with some cash and walk out with a runner. 60 an hour for working on small engine stuff..and people wonder why so much stuff gets trashed, this throw away society we have now.

That's just too much for most saws to be worth it, so much less than that would still be a good income for me (compared to what I make now, LOL), and be affordable for the customer. That's the theory anyway. We'll see what happens. it's for dang sure this hired hand farmer stuff don't pay nuthin'...

Glad you got your video player fixed! That's always a good place to start, trash it, reinstall, works on a lot of software once it gets buggy.
