i use fuel line oregon type same size as the fuel line on the same saw...... cut it at severe angle use a piece of thin wire or 25 pound mono fishing line tied to the end..... go in the clutch side with wire ...till ya get it out the oil fill up....then attach to the fuel line and fish er through..... pull it out and trim it flush...reattach it all put new oil filter in and hope the check valve aint shot LOL!!!!

Thanks a bunch! I took the check valve out and checked it but I did not see a filter. It must be rotted away as well. I will start looking for one right now. Thank you again! "The Heckel":msp_biggrin:

This saw does not have a pump. It is feed by pressure from the engine. The faster the engine runs, the more oil is forced onto the chain. Sounds weird but thats how it works. Thanks again! "The Heckel":msp_biggrin:

no problem but the 2300 does have a pump with a check valve in it that is powered by the crank case its number 17 on the IPL part number 530010195 oil pump assembly.. good luck with it its pretty simple the oil filter is number 16 part id number is530023801 ...seems like its the check valve behind the clutch thats always bad its number is....10 part Id is530069142 but they are no longer made... hope yours is good...... ive done about 12 of these saws in the last year so im learning them more and more hope this helps you....

on these pressure feed oilier saws,,, where does the pressure enter at and what regulates it? as i have a micro 25 that runs great and ex compression but no oil.... the oil line is new as is the oil filter assembly cleaned and rebuilt but does not seem to be getting pressure to the oil tank?

These arrived today. I paid a little more than I wanted to for the Poulan, but the seller had agreed to combine shipping. I was surprised that the Dayton didn't go for more since it's a S25CVA. From the quick look-over I gave them so far so good, additional info & photos to follow.

Aw, that is so wrong that you got them for that price.:msp_wink: I have to pay way more for mine. Great going!

Thanks, Al. I was seriously surprised that the Dayton turned out to be a sleeper The $35.00 shipping each was deal killer until the seller agreed to ship both for $35.00 :cool2:. The prices aren't that great when you consider that small & even large Poulan & Craftsman chainsaws used to be common at the flea markets, and used to get few if any bids on eBay. We can only blame ourselves for bragging about them on the internet (maybe we should :taped:).

The P&Cs in both look good throught the exhaust; in fact the piston in the Poulan still has plenty of machining marks. Each saw is going to need some basic TLC, but the Dayton has really strong compression with plenty of 'pop.'

One of these days I hope to do a comparison beween the 38cc Poulan/Craftsman saws, & the 33cc Skilsaw (Power Machinery) 16xx saws. According to Mark it won't be a fair comparison, but it should be fun regardless.

Did the Poulan S25CVA ever come with a chainbrake? dealer option? saws sold in Canada?

I passed on the Dayton because of the outlandish shipping cost. Having TWO of those saws shipped for $35 is much easier to deal with. I'm sure the S25-CVA was sold in Canuckland with a chainbrake after their government started requiring those devices. Poulan did sell a chainbrake 'kit' for the XXV saws (even stated "For S25DA and S25-CVA" on the box) as well as for some of their other saws. There were NOS XXV and 4200/5200 chainbrake 'kits' on feebay recently.

Aaron, thanks for the info. I keep a close :Eye: on eBay, but don't recall seeing any chainbrake kits, & I didn't find any with a Completed listings search :confused2:.

Give me a sec. I believe I have the XXV 'kit' listing in my watch list. I saw the 4200/5200 'kit' listing a couple days ago. BRB with the XXV link. I think it's the same seller...

Edit:

Here's the XXV 'kit' link. Couldn't find the 4200/5200 listing. Maybe it sold...........and/or was a different seller.

Found the other listing. Wasn't for 4200/5200................it was for 4400/4900/5400 Poulans. Bryce again...

POULAN 4400, 4900, 5400 CVA CHAINSAW BRAKE KIT STBX603 | eBay

Actually that listing is useful should I want a CB on my 5400.

With what I currently have I should be able to put together some runners: A 2400 (Craftsman), a S25CVA (Dayton), & two Poulan S25DAs. Now I just need to trade some Craftsman bars for some carb kits ;).

no problem but the 2300 does have a pump with a check valve in it that is powered by the crank case its number 17 on the IPL part number 530010195 oil pump assembly..

2300 CVA - - crank pressurizes the oil tank through the dammit 530069142 check valve, pressure in the tank forces oil through that 530010195 (which has a filter and check valve in it. IPL I see calls it a metering body.), up through the hose to the bar. no pump.

...Oh the plan..it really is a retirement plan for me, once I hit XXXXX runners, I figure I will have enough experience in repairs to be able to open a modest shop, then they will be for sale/swap. Not a hotrod shop like a lot of guys here do, I haven't even started doing that yet, just some place harry homeowner and joe farmer can come get some simple repairs at affordable prices, or swap in the busted one with some cash and walk out with a runner...

that's my plan too. good on ya.
btw, went to the recycling yard today and walked out with a little 1800. looked complete, down to the safety chain (watcha gonna do?). got to thinking, "wonder if it'll pop?" juiced the carb, it pops. justs needs cleanup, maybe carb kit and lines and good to go. i just love it when that happens. now i'm thinking i should maybe go back and get the little homie that was there too.

Yep, any and everything chainsaw related, no matter how cheap, apparently useless, or who knows. parts are parts.

Long time ago I had a bicycle shop, and that is exactly what I did back then too, went from enthusiast/hobbiest, and finally into a small shop once I had enough "stock" and tools and expertise.

Thank you for the info. I went back and looked at that part of the saw again. I found the check valve. It is o.k., thank goodness. I see they are obsolete. I didn't see any thing that resembles a pump nor a filter. The check valve in the tank is good too but the filter is gone. I also found the filter on line, I guess. It is round with a hole in the center. They come 2 to a pack. I don't think that you can use but one, right?

$2.69, I think. I guess it would make no sense to sell them one at the time. Handling and packaging would eat up the profit. I am totally confused now about the pump thing. It's actually an air pump, I think. But the air pushes the oil through the check valve in the tank, throught the hose onto the chain. Is that close?

here is the pump pic
