Help With Poulan Pro 4218avx

Greetings to all. I need some help with rebuilding my Poulan Pro 4218avx. I know some AS members think this is a throw away saw, but I love this saw. Although I am a novice in chainsaw rebuilding, I am willing to try to save it. I am being directed in this endeavor by Mike (rms61moparman) who is a true delight to work with!! However, I need a quick response, if that is possible. I need to remove the wrist pin from the piston, but I cannot remove the piston from the crankshaft/rod assembly. I also cannot remove the flywheen from the assembly. Do any of you poulan professionals have any suggestions on how I can remove the piston from the assembly to remove the wrist pin? Thank you for any assistance you may provide, Islero

I need to remove the wrist pin from the piston
I find an arbor press works quite nicely. taking out the snap ring helps. I rig it with a couple of sockets... not pro, but works so far for me.

I cannot remove the piston from the crankshaft/rod assembly.
Whut? removing the wrist pin does this. If you mean separating the crankshaft from the rod, I don't imagine many do, as that seems to me to be a high tolerance, tightly assembled piece.

I also cannot remove the flywheen from the assembly.
Not sure what is happening there... but if you can do it without buggering something up, see answer to part 1. if it looks like you're going to misaligned the press, figure out how to remove the flywheel.

If you want to do it quickly, bang it out with a hammer and an old piece of pipe or something... maybe someone can sell you a new assembly when you're done. (that is sarcasm... don't do that).

HeRoze, thank for your response. I am now taking your solutions into consideration. Again, thanks and have a great one, Islero

Poulan Pro 380 Super

Picked this up off Craigslist along with other saws, DIRT CHEAP!!! from original owner. (see thread Finally get to post a "todays Haul")

I am VERY VERY impressed with the quality of these saws, I have had many 3300 and smaller versions but this it my first 60cc version. The cylinder is chromed and made very very good.

Runner and low hours, bought in 98 and only used for WIND storm tree removal around the owners property. He installed a new 28" bar when it was new, still has 50% left. He never even cleaned the air filter. He said many 10 hours on it. I believe it. Of coarse piston and cylinder look brand new.

Came with case and Stihl bar cover with extension.

Anyone else like these? My average cost for all saws picked up yesterday was $22.50 each, So I got this for that!

Open the muffler, replace the fuel line, impulse line, retune the saw and it will surprise you and anyone else who picks it up. I've got one that will spank a Stihl 036 and runs pretty close to a 044, it's that good.

Just used my Super 380 for a few minutes, it bit me twice!!! thing either has lots of compression or cranked up timing, It snapped the starter rope outta my hands twice. Kinda a surprise.

Lots of power for 60cc even with a 28" bar and chain.

The lines and muffler will get sometime along with my other 20 saw projects!!!!

Duane, you will like that 380 for sure. I'm not sure about a 28" on it as I know it wouldnt work here that way but who knows out by you.

That is a nice find. I really like the Poulan saws in the 50 to 60cc range. That Super 380 is one I will definitely keep a look out for.

Love my 380 also:rock: I know exactly what ya mean about it yanking the starter rope out of your hand. Been there, done that with mine as well. I opened up the muffler and only use a 20" bar on mine. Great saw! I use mine a lot. I like it for its light weight & power.

Yeh I have no intentions on keeping 28" on it, just a bonus bar and chain for my other saws. I have a nice NOS 24" hard nose for it. I really like this saw, never thought I'd find one out here locally, and not for the price.

Seems its quite powerful for what it is, might have to put it up against the some my other saws.

Gregg,

Oh yes the light weight, it weighs 18.75lbs right now with a 28" bar and chain. I'll be removing the bar and chain for the NOS 24" I have.

Tell you what, it got me three more times tonight, second pull every time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SNAP BACK!!!!! gotta remember to pull starter handle out before shutdown on this one too, it wants to rip the handle through the recoil cover upon shutdown.

Gregg,

Boy, it looks almost identical to my 3450 Type 3(same as 3750) at 61cc's.

Here you go.

I am not sure that I am going about this the right way. But I will give it a try. (Newbie) I have a 2300 CVA. The oil line has rotted away and looks like a string stuck on the inside of the tank. Can anybody tell me how to replace it. I have one ordered and it should be here in a couple of days.

Thank you in advance! Heckel

i use fuel line oregon type same size as the fuel line on the same saw...... cut it at severe angle use a piece of thin wire or 25 pound mono fishing line tied to the end..... go in the clutch side with wire ...till ya get it out the oil fill up....then attach to the fuel line and fish er through..... pull it out and trim it flush...reattach it all put new oil filter in and hope the check valve aint shot LOL!!!!
