So I finally got a 3400. Apparently it runs well, but is missing the air filter and top cover. No pics cause I don't actually have it till tomorrow.

I understand air filters are available, where is the best place to get them? And would anyone have a top cover?

I'd check with Randy's assistant.

Been working on a 71A that has been sitting for a long time. Took the side cover off, and the carb was spotless and even the fuel lines were good. Took the Tillotson apart, it was extremely clean inside, too...........gave it about 4 cycles in the ultrasonic cleaner and installed new diaphragms and gaskets.
Put everything back together and tried to start........pull, pull, pull......nothing. It's pulling gas through the line to the carb, but won't start.
Spray some gas in the carb......fires right up, but dies as soon as the gas is burned. Any ideas as to what to check on, in the carb?

Sounds like the needle valve could be stuck.

Forgot to ask this earlier but this little 8 or 10" bar has two safety rakers I guess they are between chisels on chain. Why is that?

:ices_rofl: You might be right John. Cause I sure don't remember seeing it. Of course I have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday.:dizzy: I wish somebody could tell me about what year they changed the color on these Poulan's too. Seems the earlier models were the lighter, more subdued pea green, than the later brighter lime green. The 203 I have is the lighter green also, like the Thirty-O-Six.

Gregg,

I don't know the year either but the earlier ones definately are a lighter shade of green.

Here's a pic of the 306A I picked up yesterday, after a little cleaning. I painted the bar also after cleaning it and tightening up the starter.

Carb cleaning today, along with new fuel lines. Inlet lever was standing at about 45 degrees up and the needles were at about 2 turns each...I wonder if previous owner had any flooding problems?

I finally got around to fueling it up and giving it a try. I wanted to make sure the MotoSeal was dry before putting gas in it and it appears to be sealed now. I had to adjust the carb a little but right now it's really a runner! Don't have much wood around here but it cut pretty good in what I had. No need to mod the muffler on these!

You can get new AF's for the 3400-3800 saws from any Stens or Oregon outlet (pick your favorite that'll ship to Greenland). They're around $5 USD (dunno what that'd be in Canuckistani dollars).

What's the max free rpm on the poulan 4000?

Tune it by ear John.

I did but this thing is still 4-stroking a 13,800 :msp_ohmy:which makes me a little worried.

Finally got me an S25DA. Almost new. Dad said it never had gas in it, but I think it has made at least one cut. More pics in the main forum titled "Nice Suprise today"

I was at Walmart today and picked up a 16" powersharp package on clearance for $25 for the 2750. It had stock 20" bar and safety chain and I was looking for an alternative. I'm thinking the little 46cc engine will like that 16" setup a whole lot better and hell for $25 why not. In the event the storms hit I figured might not be a bad idea to be able to resharpen in moments. Or give it to dad as chances of him resharpening are none.

46cc engine, that is what I like, 16" bar and chain.

Suprisingly enuff it runs and cuts. Don't know why because of the shape it's in.

Not near as purdy as Junior's.

I need an IPL for this thing.

Got the fuel tank cover screw broke loose finally. What size is it? I want to have a new one on hand before I remove the lid to replace the pickup line.

Also need a handle brace and whatever gos on the underneath side (plastic or rubber insert).

Seems somewhat high to me. I've seen 10,500 -11,000 but not much higher than that. That of course is a non-ported saw.

Seemed really high to me that is why I was worried and asked about the max rpm. My tack is the little orange sendec (I think it's called) from bailey's. It's always seemed to work alright...not the best out there by no means but seem's consistent with all the other saws out there I've used it on.:msp_confused:
