Mine was at you first poulan GTG, maybe ya had a few too many High Life's...:hmm3grin2orange: My dad's is a Thirty-0-Six also. Really not to rare at all, I've had a few Two-Fourty-Five's also. I'm pretty sure this is what all the cover's on these series of saw's read for a year or two when they came out with the auto oiler's.

:ices_rofl: You might be right John. Cause I sure don't remember seeing it. Of course I have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday.:dizzy: I wish somebody could tell me about what year they changed the color on these Poulan's too. Seems the earlier models were the lighter, more subdued pea green, than the later brighter lime green. The 203 I have is the lighter green also, like the Thirty-O-Six.

Gregg,

Most of the early 306 did have a cast muffler, the later electronic ign models had a tin muffler with only one cover screw on it.

As far as I can tell, the 245 never came with a cast aluminum muffler. Either a early style tin with a two screw cover or a later one screw for the electronic version.

If someone put a cast muffler on your 245, the screws holding it to the cyl may now be too short as the cast muffler has a thicker flange on it. Make sure there also #12 screws and not have been changed to #10 screws. The screw holes in the cyl are actually quite deep and if you make sure the screw is long as can be and deep in the cyl, you rarely will have trouble keeping them tight.

Mark have you ever seen a five screw front outlet steel 200/300 series muffler like what is on my late electronic ign 306A?

I also have a parts saw 245 that has a real solid tin muffler on it, I might consider putting the tin muffler on it.

Hey,

I just picked up a Poulan 245a yesterday. Does anybody have a service manual for this saw?

I also "won" a bow bar for this saw.

Thanks,
jack

Jack, try the beg for manuals thread, someone will probably have the manual for you.

I hope you have all the special bow parts needed to mount the bow as you cannot just bolt a bow to a 245/306 saw without them.

What do you need to mount the bow, specifically? I do not have the clutch cover with the angled "bow cover," but from the looks of how other people mounted their bow to their 245, that may not be an issue. Are there spacers/washers that are specifically designed to mount the bow?

Thanks,
Jack

It's more then just spacers. A lot more.

You need the bow style cover, special bar nuts, complete upper handle and mount as well as bar pad spacers, clutch spacer etc.

Mark, were those parts offered as a kit? It seems to me that it would make sense for Poulan to have bundled everything together. If yes, and the site sponsors don't have it, Bryce might. He has recently been listing some unique Poulan parts on eBay.

Crankshaft seals 3400, 3700, 4000

Does the same part number cover the seals for the 3400, 3700 & 4000?

No I'm not sure that I have. It looks like a temperature limiting muffler like the offered on the 25's etc. Left coast saw?

I would be finding another muffler for it myself....

Yep. Came from a small old shop in the Sacramento, Ca area. I think I will scare up a side outlet muffler for it and put this one aside. The muffler's in perfect shape. No rust. THICK/HEAVY steel (much heavier than the tin muffler on my Dayton 245SA). It sure burns up the clutch cover though. I have a spare 245A cover that I'll put a 306A decal on and run on this saw once I get a side outlet muffler. Until then, I'll run it with the muffler (and clutch cover) that it has now.

Poulan Pro 446t

Got ahold of this split boom trimmer with saw attachment. Replaced fuel lines, primer bulb, cleaned carb and put in a new kit. I can get it to fire but it will only run for a second or two then die out even if i throttle it. I tried messing with metering lever in carb and no dice. It has those dumb spline carb adjustment and the tool is supposed to be here tomorrow. Only thing Ive noticed is it will run a moment long on full choke, if you half choke or no choke it the thing speeds up and dies.

Anybody have any ideas?

I would wait until you can adjust the jets correctly or else your just spittin in the wind.

Well...I will try and get this bow to work, and if it does not I can always flip it on ebay...

Well... Good luck with that.

Chris, I'm not sure about that. I dont "think" that it was but that has been along time ago, I know I have not seen any documents on the whole coversion kit that I can remember. All the parts are listed on the IPL.
