As I was sitting here drinking my morning coffee :potstir: And thinking about what saw Joe might be getting. Was thinking about what Poulan saw I would like most to buy, find, whatever, New on a dealer shelf type condition, what would it be? I have narrowed my all time Poulan saw down to a PP655BP or 8500. Seeing how I have a soft spot for the traditional Poulan green, I guess I would choose the 8500.:)

Truth be told, I would settle for a decent used one..LOL Just curious what your favorite Poulan might be? They made a lot of great saws over the years, and certain saws obviously have their place for a specific type of work, or niche. What be your favorite of all time, if you could buy a new one?

Gregg,

Hmmm ..... now you got ME thinking, which is always a scary thing.

Since Joe sold the Stihl and got (presumably) some decent coin for it, I'm thinking he got the 5200 that AS member Hoss had up for sale on eBay recently.

Here's a link to that listing: LINK

Gregg,

I would have to agree with you Gregg, I like the GREEN the best and my list of new poulans I would want would be a long one. If I have to narrow it down I need to think a little while on what saw it would be because I would want one that I have not owned already.

Gregg,

You guys are good! I actually DO have a 5200, but sadly I think its toast. I has a badly scored p/c I bought new rings but I think the cyl is too far gone.

I tracked that one for quite awhile also. I did not know that Hoss was the one selling it. That was a clean looking saw.

The 85cc Poulans are my favorite, I have only found one that was in immaculate shape and it is a 4900, my 85cc versions may be ugly but a majority of them are pristine where it counts.

Gregg,

I guess the one I would most like to find in NOS condition would be a 4900 or 7700.
They seem to be very rare (As almost all "tweeners" are) and the few I've had in wood are as strong as the 85cc saws!

I hear ya on that Mike! You won't get an argument out of me on that. I would take a pristine original 289 Cobra also, but would rather have the 427 version! :hmm3grin2orange:

Gregg,

Has anyone used these ultrasonic cleaners?

I found this company and here is the link to there cleaners Chemicals

I was interested in these cleaners as they are all safe for all metals including alum. and magn. and leaves a nice shiny finish....

1220 Degreaser / Carburetor Cleaner
Cleaning Solution 1831 for Removal of Grime, Scale, and Oxides from Metals
Engine Carburetor Shellac and Varnish Buster: Shellac-Buster

Please let me know if you have used them or any thoughts you may have about them.

Thanks in advance

I did it again...

Went to the flea market again today, took a modest amount of money, not because I'm tight but because I don't have any room in the garage and I don't like seeing saws sit outside. Anyway, there was this nice 3400 Poulan asking me to adopt it, so I did plus 2 other saws, off brand, Poulan guys wouldn't be interested. The Poulan didn't have any obvious defects except the chain was 99% used up. Got home with it and decided to give it a try....It fired right up, ran well and oiled well, probably on old gas and oil. The other old saw, made in LA fired up and oiled also, had a couple of small parts missing, but the newest one, made in Germany, a St--- had a hole in the piston, no comp.

Was that red Craftsman S25-CVA there?:msp_confused:

No, it sure wasn't.. I looked the place over three times or more. Got there at 6:30 am and left a little after 10:00am. I only saw one red Craftsman and it was older than the CVA. In a place like that it's always possible to overlook something. It's unusual but this year I'm seeing less and less 25s and more of the 3400 counter vibes, I think I have five or six of them right now, never had one before last year. I guess two of mine actually are 3.7s.

If they're red Craftsman versions of 3400's then they're 3.4's. Red 3.7's are usually 3700's, but a few late ones were 3800's. Grey 3.7's are all 3800s. I'd like to find a nice 3.7 labeled 3700......

I'll have to look after while and see what they say on them, I have both a red and a gray 3700, two Poulan yellow 3.4s and a Craftsman gray 3.0, also two nice running 306As..got my eye on another 306 but don't know if it's for sale or not.
