okay guys i gotta problem with this little PP180 that is defying me. i know i should be able to figure this out but i am now having to resort to "asking for directions" <<gasp>>
- i have taken this saw apart (not disassembled the motor),
- cleaned it up real nice,
- replaced spark plug
- rebuilt the carb, Walbro WT20, by cleaning with carb cleaner (about 3 times), cleaning in the USC (twice), and using lots of compressed air,
- taken it apart for "what-if" inspections 3 - 4 times,
- took it apart again and replaced the welch plugs just in case the passages were blocked,
- bought a walbro "w" gauge so i'm sure about the metering adjustment,
- replaced filter,
- replaced fuel line twice (don't think i like that tygon, too flimsy and too easily kinked),
- adjusted H and L needles to 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 turns out,
- fueled it up, primed the carb and started.

runs like a scalded dog for about 5 seconds and dies, pull the rope 4 times it starts again and dies after 5 seconds, repeat ad nauseum. i can see the fuel in the line to the carb. i can see the fuel spitting into the throat of the carb. saw has seemingly good compression (don't have a gauge yet but pull effort compares to my 1800 and 2000), p&c both look good through the carb and exhaust holes.

this saw is taking way too much of my time. what am i missing?
any questions, suggestions, or even better, a solution would be greatly appreciated.

update on this former POS (not any longer cause it runs, lol).
i swapped on a known good carb. the little stinker starts right up and runs with authority. never thought i'd come across a carb that couldn't be rebuilt. had heard of them, now i've experienced one. one more good reason to collect similar saws. thanks to all you who had suggestions. really helped me with my check list.
a fricking carb; whoda thunk? guess i'll just transfer the rebuild kit over to another one that needs rebuilding.
now all i've gotta do is find a WT-20 or equivalent. anyone got one?

I figured it was Cliff. The car and the pic background (which wasn't his usual woodlot shot) threw me off however. A couple of SWEET bow bar equipped Poulans there. The Craftsman 3.7 is particularly nice. I'm partial to that red however...:D

Getting a call from a local 360 area code and then hearing Cliffs voice yesterday morning really threw me off too.

Normally my phone says Cliff if he calls and he is sitting a 24 hour drive from here. This time he was only two hours away
and was on a secret mission to gather up some vintage lumberjack tools.

Shipped him a bunch of saws over the last 4 years or so but had never seen his smilin face up until yesterday.

Got a dumb question. Friend has gas leaking out of wild thing gas cap...right out of breather in middle where that sintered thing is. How can that be fixed?

This isn't how everyone does it but I usually fill in the gas cap center with JB Weld or epoxy and vent the tank through the top. Otherwise you could just buy a new gas cap.

Yup, you need a new duckbill. Yours melted from the trash gas.

Look thru the junk pile at your local OPE repair shop and you will find one in another Poulan of simular size. Held in with a tiny external tooth washer.
