They always do!
From what I've seen the Allis-Chalmers saws will routinely outsell any of the other "tractor saws" by a wide margin.
Ain't that just my kind of luck!!!
I love the Orange.
I love the Poulans.
They take more $$$ to get than any of the rest.:(

Mike

I thought of you and Mark when I saw that thing but felt safe in the knowledge I wouldn't even have to worry about it because as nice as it looked it would for sure go higher than I was willing to pay.

There was a cherry looking Dayton 2Z463 listed in my local CL last week. Was over two hours drive each way for me. Had the original owner's manual, a spare new AF, fuel filter, scrench, and other bits......and was priced at $155. I saw the listing as soon as it was posted (I have a cellphone application that notifies me of postings with certain search words........including "Dayton Chainsaw") and was gone the next day or so (before I could make arrangements to go see it). Wonder if one of you fellows got it. There's a guy ("Clyde") who's posting all kinds of wanted ads on my local CL. "Wanted big old Poulan chainsaw" "Wanted Homelite 750 or Super 1050", etc. Not sure how he's getting away with having those ads up. When I had a wanted ad up, some ####bird (maybe Clyde) kept flagging my ad for removal.....

Sez the guy that has 4 of 'em. It's the ####s if you're looking to buy one. Would like to find a nice 4000 like one of yours for less than $90. Same thing with the 5400 (and other 85cc Poulans). Not sure why guys get happy when they see their prefered old saw brand/model going for more money on feebay (like it's some show of 'respect' for the collectors and their saws). Just makes aquiring more of them (and parts) that much harder in the future. I'm secure in my taste in chainsaws and don't need stihl/husky/jred/dolmar pricing to make me feel good about my choices.:D

Yeah!

Who wouldn't?
His weren't all that "nice" when he got them though.
He put a lot of time and work into making them that nice.
 to you Gregg!

I'm not knocking Gregg for getting good deals on these saws. I've gotten some screaming deals on cool saws too (especially from generous AS members). I don't feel like eveybody who goes to buy the same models I've gotten great deals on should have to pay 2X-5X as much as I paid however. This "hobby" is rapidly going the way of baseball cards, stamps, comic books, collector cars, collector motorcycles, and others. It'll be a "rich man's game" soon enough....

A rich man's game you say. I believe it is already there. Any good saw in good shape is already big bucks and it doesn't matter what brand. If you do not think so just ask what any of the guys on here with a Poulan 4000 that is in good shape would sell it for.

It's in transition now. Two years ago, most of these models would go for what we'd now consider 'dirt cheap' money. It's not topped out yet. The big dogs (SD166, Homelite 2000/2100/3100G, McCulloch 797 and SP/CP125, stihl 090 and 090G, Homelite 9-series D and G saws) are already close to what the market will bear IMHO, but the "middle" saws l(4200-8500 Poulans, XL700-900 Homelites, 82cc McCullochs, Super 250 Macs, 6ci and smaller top tank Macs, XP series Homelites, etc) and the "low end saws" (3400-4000 Poulans, smaller 10-series Macs, 200/300 Poulans, 360-451 Poulans, XL-12/SXL Homelites, sand cast Poulans, smaller vertical cylinder Homelites, front tank Macs, C-Series Homelites, XXV series Pouans, etc) have a long way to go to "catch up" with the high end saws. Just wait....

Dammit I've done the wet blanket thing and pooped in a good thread again. Sorry guys. Off to put new fuel line in a Poulan S25-CVA, rebuild the carb, and replace the duckbill in the cap...

LOL, Thats true Mike. All though the last one I got, which is my best one was pretty cherry, just did the usual stuff to it before using it. That was right at $90 plus shipping.

Gregg,

Gregg, that is one sweet 4000. Very fortunate finding one in that condition at any price.

That particular Craftsman 3.7 is a Poulan 3800. Chromed piston with thick rings, and bare alluminum bore. A 3700 has thin rings, a bare piston, and a chromed bore. Still a great saw. Sears used both 3700 and 3800 Poulans as "3.7" saws. Is yours red or grey? What's the model number? It will start with "358."

358.356080

There is a 5400 that is not doing bad in the bidding also. To much for me.

Yeah I think I'm done thinking bout that one but I have been known to get silly before. Depends on my mood tomorrow. :)

The Allis Chalmers 295 is the one really kicking butt. Nice saw and has the owner's manual.

That is a nice one for sure. Glad I got mine the way I did and its damn near as nice.

Will rings for 358.356090 fit 358.356080??

Better question should be will part #530025933 fit my saw?

made a pick up today.......

Picked up my 5200 today...... Put some heavy mixed gas in a pop bottle, started it, and nursed it along for a few minutes. Diaphragm eventually started working, set idle speed...... It doesn't have overspray on the fuel line, but I don't think the carb has ever been off, it has some green on it. Stickers are perfect except for clutch cover. It also has the plastic block over the high and low speed screws. I think this is what Mark must have been talking about "the tool" ; I would like to aquire one of said tools :) Paint is 85% , definitley not a loggers saw. not beat; NEW Oregon B/C..... dont like the bar though, it is whimpy looking, looks like a streched wild thing bar....too tired for pics tonight, Why does it have a "solid state ignition" sticker? first time I've seen that.

Ok, get out the suck-o-meter..........................

Karl the only tool you need for the carb screws is a very, very small screwdriver. The holes in the block over the screws are pretty small.

Good thing you know a guy with the fuel fittings to put a two piece line setup on it and ya really do suck.......
