Poulan 4000 pictures.

I saw it late last thursday night on Tippecanoe Craiglist:

18 inch poulan pro chainsaw. Hardly ever used. Used to be my grandfathers and he only used it to trim
trees at his home. Text me and I will send pics. Give me an offer. Asking $100

I left a message that night and followed through. Really lucky as he had just listed it.

I,m trying to get pictures uploaded but am dumber than dumb.

Pictures ?? Too big !

My 1950 Wood Shark

I have $18 in this little saw and had to try it in the 98 degree heat on the 4th.

It runs excellent and cut good even with with the safety chain. I include pics of opening up the muffler a little.

I know the chain is sagging on the bar after I cut with it for the first time. You can see in the picture of the side cover that it is broken out in the adjustment slot. ( I am looking for a good chain brake side cover for it )

Great looking saw Richard!!!

I think I might have a cover for that thing Gonna have to go look in my box of goodies and I might be intrested in the 4000 if it's not spoken for yet u lookin for anything in trade or just paper parts

picked up a craftsman 358.355051 at the salvage yard last week. new fuel lines and filter and she runs well. has good compression.
looks like i may be working on the chain oiler though. anyone know what size line 8133 is?
only thing broken is the muffler shield; needing one.
i'm thinking this is a rebadged cva2300. is that correct. needing to know so i can beg for an ipl.

Jerry, I don't know if this helps, but the photo on my IPL for the Crftsman 358.355061-2.3/16" AV & 358.355071-2.3/16" AV PS is a Poulan 2300CVA.

If your talking a Micro based saw, then the oiler line is a 1/8ID x 3/16OD line.

How did I do for $40 out the door?

Now I just have to find someone who likes old these old Poulans and enjoys trading saws...

Just for giggles I looked on the Sears parts website. There are still parts available for this saw, almost ALL of them! Not only that, but from looking at the bar numbers the bar is original to the saw or was purchased through Sears soon after the saw. Since it still has such high compression I'm guessing it didn't get used a whole lot.

what ya want for it? does it run? does it fire? what is wrong with it besides the obvious dirt?

That there is an early one and heres a few reasons why:
Round decal on clutch cover, which also is mag., not plastic
Different shade of red paint
green paint under the red ; all mine were red only.
All red hood with only black, A/F cover ; later ones had all black top
Round cover screw ; later ones had a + shaped screw
Different decal placement with an extra one on the top cover
20" bar. All the 3.4s Ive seen had 16" banana bars.
May even have an adjustable oiler like some early 3400s

The green paint is only on the left half of the handle. I'm guessing they ran short of red ones and repainted some green ones to get the order out.
The extra label on the top cover is for the starting instructions in French.

The owner's manual claims it does have an adjustable oiler but I don't see a screw in the hole in the case. I'll check when I pull the pump.

This one comes with a spur sprocket (IPL) and my 3400 with a rim.

The castings were made in 1979 according to the date slug.

The only issue I can find is it's missing the hand guard that attaches to the engine cover. I started it before I left the store with it and it sounded good, nice deep idle and it wound up quickly. I'm currently in negotiations on a trade but nothing is solid yet. If it doesn't work out you're right after wigglesworth. It does have a nice feel to it....

Poulan 330 has me beat! Help please.

330 will fire with a prime. I've replaced the carb with a NOS HDA-137 (needles set at 1 turn out), new filter, new intake boot, new impluse line. Gas is getting to the carb but the plug doesn't ever look wet so it's definitely not flooding. Looks like gas may not be making it into the cylinder. It will not "pop" unless I prime it through the carb. I give up unless you guys can point me to the problem. Thanks. Compression is 130#.
