There was a really clean looking Skil branded 3400 on my local CL a few months ago. The guy wanted something like $150 for it and he was a couple hours away from me so I never even called him. It was never relisted, so either somebody bought it or the seller gave up...

The one I'm talking about would probably be in the under $30 range, missing the air filter and cover, owner assures me he has them but you know how that goes. The parts are pretty common though.

IIRC the AF cover is black on the Skil versions. Common 3400-3800 cover. The air filters are available from Oregon and Stens for something like $7. Go for it.....

I'll probably eventually get it but the owner wants to make sure it's his to sell. It's at a mower shop and the guy put it under his table and forgot about it. I pulled it out and asked him if it was for sale so if I get it I'm sure it would be a fixer upper. He'll let me know in a week or so. I'm about the only one around here that buys old saws and that's a plus.

You're lucky Joe. Here there are several 'saw flippers'. Some are pretty aggressive. One in particular always has several want ads running on CL, as well as several chainsaw for sale ads. He relists again and again without trouble. If I put up an old saw want ad it gets flagged and removed pretty quickly. I think it's that one guy who's "eliminating the competition".....

I seldom ever use Craigslist for chainsaws, I always go to flea markets, yard sales, or a couple of small engine repair shops around here. Yard sales out in the country are good places, if you don't see a chainsaw in the sale it never hurts to ask, sometimes they'll go to the barn and pull out an old saw and sometimes they'll surprise you with what they have. I'm going tomorrow but am kinda reluctant to come back with too many because I'm full up to my ears with saws right now. I'm not above flipping a few of the newer plastic saws but certain ones I kinda like to hang onto.

I do have a friend down the street that buys up chainsaws also but we kinda work together rather than against each other. Things seem to work out better that way, I wouldn't try to stop him or cause him any difficulties even if I could. Too bad the fellow is doing that to you, I found out there's enough chainsaws around for all of us! As far as selling, I sell some locally and use ebay a bit. I've never tried to sell a saw on Craigslist.

POULAN S25 AV CHAINSAW VINTAGE NEW NEVER USED | eBay

Same seller also has NOS PP305 and PP335 saws missing some parts.

Ok Aaron, just because you and I are so tight, that saw is now headed to NW Indiana. I couldnt help myself.

Been a good day I guess! Two hard to find saws bought and I finished running all the electric in the new building.

And I'll be damned if all the lights didnt come on when I flipped the switch!

Where the s*&t do you guys get your Motoseal?

I've tried everywhere...Autozone, Advance, Import car stores, Independent auto stores, 2 motorcycle shops, and NAPA. No one ever heard of it. NAPA looked it up, and contacted their Permatex rep, and couldn't get it. Isn't this stuff available on the East coast?

They need a new permatex rep!

Let me know if you need me to buy a couple of tubes and send them up to you!
Not only is it GREAT stuff but it is CHEAP!!! (compared to Dirko, Hondabond, Yamabond etc.)
A tube that is twice as big as Dirko is about 1/3rd the cost.

There are different formulations of Hondabond (and Yamabond/Suzukibond/Kawasakibond). Hondabond-4 is the same thing as Threebond 1194, and is damn good stuff for crankcase gaskets, base gaskets, and the like. A big tube of Hondabond-4 was about $8 at my local bike shop.

I had a similar challenge..........ended up at the O'Rielly Auto Parts Store, used to be Checker Auto Parts, where a diligent counter person took the time to research it in the hard copy Permatex catalog and the plugged that knowledge into their computer and found that they could get it from a local distribution warehouse. I had it the next day........still haven't used it but the stuff has great rep from numerous here!!

Sooo got to the Autozone or Advance or ?? and have the counter person take the time to look up item #29132 in their hard copy Permatex catalog OR punch that item number into their supplying warehouse(s) order page on their computer and see what comes up.

I bought mine on ebay, even though NAPA store said they could order it and get it in a day.

I waited too long, thought about it the night I saw it and decided to sleep on it. Next day she was gone.........it went to a good home.
