Help with 295

Can anyone give me help with testing the oiler on the 295? It is a 295 super clean about four years old. I looked for the port and couldn't find it. Since there is no manual oiler, I couldn't squirt to see where it comes from. do i have to run to test it?

Yep!!!

Just get it running, leave the b/c and clutch cover off and give her a fire.
You will soon know where the oiler is and that it is O.K.!!!
Those oilers are really pretty bulletproof. About the only thing that goes wrong with them is if someone fires it up in zero weather with summer bar oil in it and goes straight to WOT (wide open throttle) without letting it warm up.

Just a little rant. You would think feebay sellers that have been in the business of chainsaws for 30 plus years would know the difference from a 3400-4000 hand guard and a :taped: poulan 2000 hand guard. :bang: I got like 5 2000 handguards on the shelf like I wanted another one. grrrrrrrrrrr. :msp_sneaky:

I buy the 3400-4000 4200-5200 hand guards to use on saws when handles break off of other saws. Right now I use them on a echo 8000 and 6700 and some others.

Thanks Mike

3400

I picked up a 3400 in non running condition, that only needs some minor things to get it going. There is no fuel line or fuel pick up body, two long screws on the starter cover and probably a carb kit. So, my question is since we don't have any poulan dealers nearby, are the parts for this saw that are available from sears parts direct worth getting? I was only thinking of getting the screws and the fuel line parts. I checked out the thread that ModifiedMark did on the poulan fuel line replacement, and was just curious if the fuel line that he used was any higher quality or if the stuff from sears would be adequate. Any other tips/advice would be helpful with this, since its going to be my first time tearing into a chainsaw, and I'm looking forward to getting this thing up and running.

checked ring gap on my craftsman 3.7 (red Poulan rebadge). it was greater than 0.034 (my largest feeler gauge). didn't need to know exactly cause i already know the gap is too big. saw runs but since i already have the jug pulled i'm gonna replace the rings. where can i get new rings for this?

Don't forget that the ring end locating pin takes up some of that gap!
If you don't find a set readily, shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up with a guy who can help you out.

So you got the third Dayton 4Z252. Was wondering, since Mark had mentioned three recent Dayton 5200's, and I could only recall Lee and Myron's scores. That's a really clean one. You suck too Randy!!!:D

Yeah, this saw was posted in the Craigslist thread and the guy was actually being a smartazz by posting all saw adds from Denver. About 5 saws down this saw was listed and I placed a call, sent money, and it came in. I did thank him and MMark chastised me pretty good :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

5200 air filters maybe. Anyone interested?

I'm going to pick up 2 new 5200 air filters from a guy clearing out some old Poulan stock. He' wants $10 each.
If he has more than 2 does anyone want me to pick one up?
I think I can ship to the US for atound $9
Not sure what he has but. if there is anything else you want me to ask him for, let me now ASAP.
Part numbers required

thin rings.
hadn't considered the pins. what would be a decent gap?
seems like i read on AS where the ring gap should be between 0.012 and 0.024.
the pin is 0.055; the top ring gap is 0.083. that leaves a true gap of 0.028. that seems like its just barely over the upper limit.
is that correct?
