Arrived yesterday, found on the Raleigh NC CL. Seller was the original owner and was very good about maintenance. This saw hasn't been abused at all. Fits into the team right between the 3400 and the Craftsman 5.2.

I cannot lie. I bought your gray one and I did check it, and found it is a 3800. I like the saw and it is in great shape except the compression is alittle low. I already have a new set of rings for it but have not got around to putting them in yet but I will and then I will lose the base gasket while at it. So thanks once again for a great saw at a good price.

i bid on that saw too i think....

Dammit Ted. I keep telling you to not put up pics of my saws.:D

That's another great score. Take good care of it and my Craftsman 5.2.

Actually, the gray one ran quite a bit better than the red one but I already had another gray one which was a 3400. I imagine the red 3700 has even lower compression than yours. Been working on another brand (foreign) for a few days...I'll get back on the name brand saws in a week or so.

Well sometimes we get lucky.

Not to worry, I have several more I'm gonna sell sometime. I like the saws but don't have enough room and keep getting more coming in all the time. Sometimes I sell cheaper saws that I really don't want to keep but sometimes I let go of a really nice one because I have duplicates. I let go of a pretty nice 245 last week at a pretty cheap price, all that was wrong with it was a cracked clutch cover, which I understand would have been no problem for you...

i have to many lol

i really have to many not that style but i have so many top handle ones its not funny.... i need to build a new shed as they are now on the floors ......i just got some parts in and soon as i get a clutch drum in i should have a very sweet pp180 new fuel lines new oil lines vent clutch spur bar and chain.. im going to put a craftsman foam grip handle on her to i like those....i keep saying im going to sell a bunch and consoladate but i sell one buy 3 LMAO!!!

Hey Palmer did you make to Elora this weekend?? I went today. Did not see many saws for sale. There was a 2900 for 10 bucks missing the recoil starter. I was going to get it but didn't want to stand in line to pay for it .The one guy had a hell of nice display of old American iron there. I really liked his SP 125. I don't think he had a Poulan in his display. It was the most crowded than I ever saw it there today.

speakin of top handle saws...

Yep, I was there. Did you see the cast Poulan saw for $40? It looked to be complete. I should have picked it up in case someone else here wanted it but, as usual, I didn't have much money on me..
We AS members I guess need to start wearing name tags or something. Wish I'd seen you there. I'll probably be at Croy Creek next Sunday if it doesn't rain. Lots of good priced saws there if you don't mind repairing them a little.

lol

A friend of mine has a Skil Saw, which is a re-badged 3400 Poulan that I've been trying to get. So far he hasn't budged but I'm pretty sure that one of these days he'll sell it to me. It's missing a couple of parts that shouldn't be too hard to find. It should clean up rather well. Of course I have to figure out what's wrong with it also.

i always know yours

cant miss that stump.... i bet that skil one is cool i think dave 76 it was that had one that was a micro.... and i got to drinkin beer and forgot and it sold at such a good price... i could have kicked myself like ten times LMAO!

just got the look.

my wife just walked by saw i was on the bay and was like didnt you just buy 3 saws just like that last week???? i said well not just like it they were a lil different.....plus i just spent about 100.00 in parts fuel line carb kits stuff i said i had to have LOL....it really is an addiction ....i told her trucks bikes and boats cost way more.....:givebeer:

thin rings.
hadn't considered the pins. what would be a decent gap?
seems like i read on AS where the ring gap should be between 0.012 and 0.024.
the pin is 0.055; the top ring gap is 0.083. that leaves a true gap of 0.028. that seems like its just barely over the upper limit.
is that correct?

bump. do i need new rings?

You'll notice that stump is about gone..gotta find another place to take pics. I'm always glad to find out I sold to an AS member because I figure at least I won't have to show them how to start a saw or how to mix fuel. I've gotten at least 2 saws back that "wouldn't start" and realized the buyer didn't know how to start one. I haven't had anybody straight-gas one of my saws yet.

Picked up a few more poulans since my last pic post.

Just picked up this 3400 that looks to have 3 or 4 hours on it. Original bar and maybe chain # 2. Local Stijl dealer said it had low compression at 120lbs. It needed a new fuel line. I picked up another 3400 the same day....not at clean, but cuts, great. Anyone have a 3700 piston/cyl set they want to trade for parts?

Your local Stijl dealer doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground!!!
That 3400 probably didn't have any more than 120lbs from the factory.

Why are you looking for a 3700 P/C?

Mike

Right-o

The dealer is a super nice guy, but he just doesn't even try on older saws. Hes a saw salesman... But, I get a lot of nice stuff out of his barn,

I want to big bore a 3400 I have. A 4000 cylinder would be fine too;) I have never seen a 3700 in person.... Local poulan dealer (now the Stihl dealer) sold a ton of 3400s. I did get one 4000 from him, but sold it to nick. It was very clean too. He has 2 306s but I haven't grabbed them. They are fairly rough. I got the scored 3.3 sears best from him for 5 bucks. Gotta love Stihl dealers...lol
