Gasket PDF

Does anyone have a good oil pump gasket I could borrow? I had ordered a few, from OrderTree, but they were back ordered for over a month (so were the gas tank gaskets for 306/245). I needed some of the other parts, I had ordered, and had to cancel the entire order, to re-order those parts. I want to use the gasket as a pattern to make up a few to have on hand.

Here's a tracing of a 5200 oil pump gasket I just put in my 5200. Scan is to real size

Took down and brushed out a large section of a big, dirty, nasty, spider filled cedar in the front yard yesterday. Dropping it was quick and easy. Brushing it out was a nasty, scratchy ##### of a job. Five and 1/2 pickup loads of brush hauled away. Didn't have my 'helper', as my oldest broke a bone in her wrist last week. Last 1/2 load in the bottom pic. Glad I had my trusty Poulan S25-CVA. Would've made the falling cuts with my 306A (to make this an "all Poulan" show), but I didn't feel like swapping b/c's around (or filing the chain that's on it now) so I grabbed the 'ready to go' PM700 instead. Sorry Mark. :D.

Aaron, what the hell is that yeller thing? Sure funning looking. :hmm3grin2orange:

That S25 is perfect for that limbing job. While over at Eds friday, we looked at a big ash in his front yard that has to come down. We figure the S25CVA that I set him up with sometime back will get some time put in on it. Lots of top limbs on it.

3400, 3700, 4000 bar oil

What's a good weight bar oil for these impulse oil pumps. Motor oil? Stihl winter weight or ??? Seems I have some difficulty with the pumps oiling well.

Thanks.

Super 72 Bow huh?

Let me know if that one moves on sometime.

It is back in Virginia, but unfortunately it is stuck. Of all the saws I got in this bunch it is the one I wanted to run. I did not have time to check it out, I just know it will not pull over with the rope.

Gary!! Good to see you on here again. I thought maybe your wife put you in a "timeout" like the E-Trade baby.:D I see you found a PC or smart phone and got back online.

No forced time out, I had to go to California for work for a week and didn't have an opportunity to keep up. When i got back it was time for my daughters to start volleyball, so I have not had much free time.

You know it seems a common theme on this site that everyone thinks if there bar oil is not as thick as molasses then its cheap and no good. I call BS on that.

Impulse oiler saws do not like thick heavy bar oil. The cheap consumer saws with plastic oiler gears dont fare to well with thick oil combined with low tempretures either. Thats why you see Husky 455's, Wildthing types etc with stripped oiler gears alot.

When the temp drops I seem to have better luck with the really cheap bar oil brands like found at Menards etc. That said I use TSC bar oil alot as I stock up on it when its on sale but I thin it down with Ker0sene or Diesel fuel and then that works fine as well.

I dont cut when really really cold out. But I found the walmart sure tech stuff was thin and flowed better in the impulse types like my 2000 in the winter. The thicker oils like the poulan pro red dyed wouldnt flow through it hardly.

Had ourselves a little gtg yesterday picking up some bigger test wood. Ran my rebuilt 475 with afm husky 52mm piston with 24" full comp 3/8 and 425 with 24" 3/8 full comp and my 415 with 16" for smaller wood. Friend brought his husky 365 special 20" and 372 50mm 24" to compare.

Really hating the body lift on my ole plow truck now days. Getting where my old azz cant lift them bigger logs anymore up to the higher tailgate and they are getting cut shorter in length to do so.

Was a a good time with good company and conversation on chainsaws afterwords. :cool2:

I'm coming to that conclusion also. Just trying to figure out where I need it to be now.

I generally use motor oil in my saws that don't have the gear oiler. It seems to work better in older saws and besides that it's less messy. Lots of saws leak oil when not in use, I usually drain the saws if I don't think I'll use them for a while.

I would use something like 20wt oil or I guess you could thin down the molasses stuff if you want.

wow!!!!

After a couple days of rain interuption, I milled the 3rd cant out of that Basswood. Hope it gives us enough to play with. :) Its ammazing how big of a log it takes to get a 10" square cant out of it. The last one I did was 16", and just did get a full 10" out of it.

Gregg,

thats just too cool you could make your own posts to build with talk about solid... not sure how you could treat them to keep the termites out but man!!!! very cool!!!

cool

It's called Creosote.
It's worked like a charm for generations.

Mike

thats cool yes i remember that i thought it was outlawed years ago as it caused cancer and all sorts of stuff... do they still sell it? I remember an old timer i used to work with that has since passed telling me about it years ago....

Still used in many applications, the most common being on railroad ties. It is the best wood preservative out there and guards against rot and insects better than anything else. It comes from coal tar pitch which also has restricted use. I believe it is readily available to farmers and industrial users but not to the general public. It likely depends upon where you live.

Well, how did the "throw-away" (as everyone else refers to them) Poulans compare to the Husky's. I have a very good idea how they run (got a 475 & 505).

Lets put it this way. I liked my huskys and I like my poulans and every make out there has something I like too. I sold all my 362 365 and 372 not to long ago. Some where around 9 to 12 of them. I am just a recreational cutter aka hobbyist and help others with firewood. I used to get calls on the side when I had my 084's 166 3120 to quarter up big stuff for guys.

Now if I was making a living with a saw and depended on it day in day out and needed support and parts I would keep the huskys around. But for my needs I found the poulans filled the bill plus some. :msp_wink:

How'd I do :msp_biggrin:

Oh I got 3 505 myself, no lookers I am into working saws. 2 are in parts and not complete.
