In the US a tree gets raped every five seconds... there goes another one. With that said it only took this guy 9 un-Godly hours to sodomize this one. It took me about 7 hours watching him to figure out he wasn't taking it down. I was kinda surprised he wasn't though, after all he had on his spikes.
The house belonged to old man Schaffer who burnt it down a few years ago lighting his fireplace with kerosene. I still think he is mad at me for not helping to put it out. Well, what can I say? I did put him out though, he was a little on fire when I found him.
So this younger couple bought the place. One day the new HO walks up to me and asks if I can do something with the oak leaning over his house. He didn't like me so he got someone else. I think my price was to high and he could tell he couldn't get over on me. When I first met him I really didn't like him either. So...

It was about 5 hours to here where all the sudden he breaks out with a hand saw and starts deadwooding the canopy.:dizzy: he had come down for lunch and spiked back up.

This is what really blows my mind. I guess the HO wanted this one last limb off at the end of the job. This climber dude was right at this spot for more than an hour and a half.

It really was nine hours. There were 3 on the ground and they where dragging deadfall out of the woodline while this guy just hung out up there. Personally, I would have quit. Sure would have. Treeclimber, that's me, not a tree-stand -around-in-for-9-hours. It would have annoyed me thoroughly, more than watching some cheese-eater spike around a healthy tree, well once healthy.

The road goes up behind it and you can really see how there is not much left in the canopy when you drive by.
I don't know what the price was on this job, I only gave the HO a verbal ( around a grand ) but I wasn't planning to take more than half the tree with with.
I do kinda regret not getting the job, it looked like a fun one and watching Spikey do it only pissed me off. I thought The HO was a penis the second I met him, looks like he drinks light beer... and likes it.

Spikey would rope off a little branch and make a top cut. Every one a RIPPER. You can see the tears. I think that is kinda shoddy workmanship as well. I think there are some rips on the big collar cuts. I will go over when the HO is at work and take pics of that, also, when I am over I am going to re-burn the house down.
I was really nice to them and offered sound advice when he approached me about his problem with the tree even though I wanted to smush him from go. No, I am not going to burn his down.

Dan, what in the world did he do until lunch? He wasted energy even going up and then back down to eat lunch. I usually wait till I get down or put a sub sandwich on my rope! nice pictures through the door though

Is that your neighbor's house?

I hate when another tree company comes into my neighborhood.

What did the owner mean when he said - could you do something with my oak leaning over my house? What do you think he was looking for? Safety? Maint?

You gonna tell him about the spike injuries?

I had a way established client hook up with another tree company on a removal I was underbid on. Next spring that company comes and puts mass Mauget injections in their trees and leaves them there for months. I gotta pass by every day to my lot so I called and left a message(no need for injections-they injure the trees-they should come out in a few days). Well they stayed there for almost a year and the next spring (now) they were covered with twice as many injection units. Haven't the slightest idea what the injections were supposed to do. Trees were perfectly healthy and one was a silver maple.

Almost like HO was trying to thumb their noses at me. Maybe the same case on your street.

He went up three times in all. I will come down for lunch, take a break, pull my underwear out my ass, you know, its only civilized. I guess I mentioned him coming down not to say he was a chump but to illustrate the fact that there must be some chewed up bark on that puppy by now.

oaks are pretty sensitive to loss of photosynthetic area. Too bad you didn't get the job. Now the homeowner will have to pay for a removal in a few years...... Mike

There may not be any bark left by then. How long did it take him to get out from the truck to where he cut the limb over the house? I totally agree with you on other tree companies coming into my area. If my neighbors don't know by now that I do tree work, something is wrong. Maybe no 20/20 eyesight...I don't know

I think there can be some jealousy involved. "How can they afford to live in MY neighborhood when I go to my very important cubicle every day and THEY work outside and isn't that kinda like mowing lawns?"

Not jealous at all. I always welcome the competition, it pushes me to step up my game. The same people that usually get another tree company(major tree company) are the same people who harp about supporting your local businesses. Just funny to me

You got it, deys nuts!
These people moved in maybe a year ago, never said hi. I would drive by with my window down real slow as the girl was pulling mail out of the box, once I even said hi, she never acknowledged me. Not even when she walks her new dog down past my house. I think the guy is a little pee pee head. I have seen the light beer bottles. I think they moved from a condo.
I don't know whether they are just like that or someone told them about me before they moved in:greenchainsaw:

So yeah, he asked me my advice one day when I was working up in the yard splitting wood. I think he expected me just to do it for like free or something cause we are neighbors. I gave him a quick number along with a little advice and a description of what I would do. He asked me if I wanted the rotten firewood in the woods by his house. He said that I could just take it anytime. I told him to give me a shout when he decided what he was going to do, he was crying poor WHICH, although I was dead broke growing up and still ain't rich, is something I would never do.
There is another neighbor who cut a really good notch in one of his trees trying to cut the english ivy off with a cheap chainsaw. I told him I would give him a hand but he called another guy, a guy a sub with. Well, nothing was ever done over there.
I really think that most people are either terrified of tree guys or try to get over on them cause they think us stupit. I live for the few that like me, at least they seem to like me, they smile and say " GREAT JOB" when they pay the bill.
I am actually quite taken aback when someone I just met OK's the job. I am starting to feel I should say " Are you sure? Here is the number of the guy who will do it for half of what I just quoted. Give him a call so I know I am not taking you for a ride!":dizzy:

No man, I meant the HO can be jealous of a tree guy living in their hood IMO.

I had a nbor just move in across the street. Kinda ignored us esp. me in my new bright red one ton truck. I bought the wife a new beemer wagon so that is prob ok. Anyway one day the wife was within earshot and I introduced myself. Real nice lady. Tells me husband is gonna do some major pruning and did I have any advice as the previous owner said I maintained their trees and I was some kinda superman tree guy or something. I told her about natural target pruning cuts in detail.

I don't meet the husband for a week or 2 and one morning I can hear a department store saw gunning away across the street. I look out the window and he is having at it along with a pole saw. He is making mass flush cuts and tearing almost every one. He is painting every cut.

It goes on for days and coincides with the towns debris pick up day coming up soon. I ignore him completely and I can see it is getting to him. One day I see him over there doing nothing and away from the trees and I go over and introduce myself. I don't want to talk about his work but he does. I ignore the tree talk and talk neighborhood etc. Then he pointedly tells me that a tree by the drive has a number of limbs that are too big and he cannot cut very well with his polesaw (no estimate asked for). I say I gotta go to work and don't leave him feeling like I am dissing him.

He seems like a nice enough guy but what if I went into his widget selling business and started screwing up the inventory plan or something like that.

I did tell him to forget about the tree paint and he seemed real happy about that.

Wow, that guy did a fantastic lions tailing job on that Oak.

It'll be SOOOO worth the money saved to the homeowner after a few limbs come through the roof and they end up taking it down in the end because they were too cheap to do it right!

:dizzy:

That sure looks anoying dano.

I took down this 90' spruce in front of the niehboring tree services shop awhile back, (ex employer, long time ago) that had to be anoying as all heck. Best part, he had quoted it and said he would need a crane - we had her down and chipped by 3:30. Those are the days that make this gig fun. Funny I didnt see him around much that day??

It comes back around dan. Funny pics thru the door though.

Yes, the circle MUST go on. It was around 5:30 when I took the pics throught the door. My daughter and I were trying to nap. They finally shut it all down around 7.

You gotta ask yerself if it would have made you feel any better if they were totally sick dog and made you doubt yours and the dans abilities (not that thats likely I'm sure, lol) - right next door! I would think that would have been worse.

Just Imagine the great murphy's mullet whipping around in that tree and out to every little tip! it would have been like a half hour gig, but a painfull half hour no doubt!
