Due to cheaper construction where they no longer solder the battery clamps onto the wire that you either coat the crimp with RTV to provide protect them from oxidation if you can't solder the wire to the crimp to maximize a good connection. If you have the old Rosin flux then you must clean off the flux residue with alcohol. If you use the new No-Clean type flux then you don't have to clean them as we no longer clean the solder joints on circuit boards with N0-Clean fluxes.

Some RTVs release ascetic acid - vinegar - as they cure. Do NOT use these kinds to seal electrical connections, or you'll be causing corrosion, not preventing it.
