Yeah my 261 looks about the same size as my 284F, oleo mac's are not the lightest saws but they sure are dependable, I have 10 of them, all good runners

hard cranking 264f

I have a 264f recently acquired that cranks hard. pull the sparkplug and it cranks easily but when trying to satrt it it has so much compression that youd swear something was wrong inside. Ive had it running but only after almost ripping my fingers off...it runs good...any ideas?

I wish I could put pics on this site to show mine. I've since added the 261 and a nice 950 Super to the list. I'd have to say though that the 264f is my favorite Oly. Or the 999, or the 272. Hmm let me think about this a lttle longer.

261, 271, 281, 480(A), etc. all use the same case. There is a difference in oilers, some use a cam and some a worm drive. Theiroff's 261 ran well, I had it tuned in quite well before sending it off.

Did you buy Theiroffs 261? I saw it in action at a GTG. Ididn't realize the cases were the same on all those models. I have another 272 and 284 that I can make into one saw.

No, I traded it to him. I thought he dumped it, but I see it back in his sig. Cases, cranks, bearings, seals. Same. Rods, pistons, cylinders is where the difference is, at least 99% of it.

Anyone know a source for a olympyk/oleo mac 950 cylinder and piston? Also...what other models shared the same cylinders? (251b?) I now know a 945 (44mm) piston will not fit a 950 crank and rod assembly. The wrist pin diameter is different between the two. I have a decent 945 cylinder and piston for trade for a 950 or one that will work on my 950 carcass. if anyone can help me out i'd really appreciate it! Cant wait to get this saw back online. Pm me if you can help.

Slipknot, I checked my Oly IPLs, your cylinder looks like it is unique to the 950, also piston/rings etc as you found out the hard way.

Part numbers for a 950:

Cylinder: 950.0006
Rings: 54.00015
Piston assy, rings, wrist pin, piston, and clips: 951.00009

Rings are shared with the 254, but the piston assy #s are different.

Wish I could help more, but I have 0 experience with the 900 series saws.

thanks

hey bud....thats info i didnt have and i thank ya. id like to get a dealer shop manual for the olympyks....this universal shop manual thats sold at baileys is decent but doesnt provide all that good stuff you just wrote.

9 series sometimes shares parts with the modern 1 series, good luck!

Slipknot, PM me your email addy and I'll send ya the IPL I have, it covers the 200 and 900 series. It's 2,884KB PDF, so a good sized file. It's not a repair manual, but it gives ya the part numbers. I think I downloaded it straight off the Efco site, if I remember right.

I have a Olympyk 254 and it will ALWAYS be my favorite saw. Everyone thinks that saws like these suck because they have never heard of them. I hate to tell them but they are just as good as any Stihl or Husky!!!!
