Axe and wedge
When wedging you must really be careful and mind the top. The saw may not transfer enough vibration to bring something down, but the impact of the axe on the wedge will definately get things moving!

Yep!!! I won't even think about bashing a wedge(s) without my helmet on, and even then, I'm not so sure it will stop some of the branches from taking me out. I've had two helmet strikes from high up in the past year... and I don't do it all that much.
