Wow that is a real nice saw, well that proves that they are out there. The tag on my p-61 western reads p61 gfw,I wonder if the g stands for hand guard on my saw.By the time I got the saw from my grandpa it was long gone.If it does I will try to find one to put on it.Maybe you could shed a little light on this for me,thanks in advance.
Here is the early P50 I picked up this summer. I could not get a spark from the 3-piece ignition. I gutted the system, went through a few different coils/trials and had to re-time the flywheel with a light. I managed to get it running after quite a battle. Came with a nice original 36" 0.404". I will swap the 36" onto my early BP655 and the 24" 3/8 back onto the P50.
I haven't cut with it yet, but it seems to run pretty well. I'll get it down off of the racks and pull the cover to show the ignition one of these days.
..... just blipping the throttle after I finally got it running. I need to change out the seals and get a bit further into it still.
Here is some pics of my P50 Saw project that l am currently working on, 3 Pcs Ign set up
Yes the G is stands for hand guard. F &W are full wrap handle and western.
I have seen the guard on several Farmsaws. They do not show up often on the p41 p51 or p61. I have a NOS hand guard
What carb is on it,all of mine are choke out and off choke in.Thanks to kz1000 and P62 here is the P51F mocked up. I still need a few screws, nuts etc but most is together. The air filter boot will not fit over the discharge tube. Yes the top handle is a black NOS unit. May have wrong carb for it is choke forward and off choke when knob pulled out

Tim, that was exactly what i was thinking, everything else is good. Can you pull the choke shutter and turn the shaft 180 degrees?
One of the experts may chime in before I figure it out,but I will look into it for you.Picked up a Poulan Pro 405 (65cc) (same as P39 I believe) which sadly has some issues, the worst of which is a broken lower case which leaks bar oil and of course affects overall rigidity. P&C are fine looking. Which other Poulan Pro and Pioneers saws use the same case? This info would make my search so much easier.
It is together accept for the air filter boot on the tube. Also the carb choke is backwards
