Decals again

Hello guys, I'm hoping that someone has that little oval decal found on the small P-series and the older big saws. I need a photo of one with dimensions for some decal sets that are being made up.

Decal

Hi Brendon
I'm sure I have one in nice shape on one of my small series saws. But would not be able to get a picture and post for at least a week, as I am on my way to Prince George. If you do not get any help by then let me know and I can do it for you

That's a loaded question, Arrowhead. At last count I have 7 different full wrap handles listed in the cross-reference I'm compiling for the P-series saws. These are only the ones for the large series (P50, P60, etc). There are two or three different widths, depending on whether or not a chain brake is used and I'm not sure what else. What is the model & configuration of the saw you need it for?

Much as I love Pioneer, it's redundant crap like that that brings down an otherwise good company.

I never knew there was that many, the ipls I checked only showed two different part numbers. Its for a P50, the handle part number is 475203. On this saw Im not running a chain brake, so width does not matter, as long as the mount holes line up. Thank You

Here's my full wrap handle list so far, I haven't fully researched these all yet, but they were assigned different numbers as the saws evolved & changes were made, e.g. wider to accommodate chain brake, plastic chain catcher, grey grip hose on newer units, etc.

474602 Handle, Full Wrap P40
475201 Handle, Full Wrap P41
475370 Handle, Full Wrap P41-12
475716 Handle, Full Wrap P42
475203 Handle, Full Wrap, Non-chain Brake, P50, P51, P60
475724 Handle, Full Wrap P52
475447 Handle, Full Wrap P61
475367 Handle, Full Wrap P61-12 &14
476192 Handle, Full Wrap Pioneer/Partner P42
476133 Handle, Full Wrap, Chain Brake, Pioneer/Partner P62
476485 Handle, Full Wrap, Chain Brake, Poulan Pro 655, 655BP
476193 Handle, Full Wrap Poulan Pro 455, Target Quickie 42, 45 & Super Quickie 45
476134 Handle, Full Wrap Target Quickie 52, 62, 65 & Super Quickie 65

Handles & my new saw

That's quite a list of handles. Although they have lots of different part numbers, the main difference is the colour of the rubber and the width. All in all the big ones will fit the big saws and the smaller ones will fit the smaller saws. With the narrow handles, removing the clutch cover on some models may be difficult.

Here's my newly aquired Poulan Pro 655. It's all original except for the black caps. Most of the screws have never been loosened. Not pictured is its 36" .404 bar with most of the original paint. I can still make out the wording on it. The chain is about 80% or better and is soaking in my varsol tub. The rear plastic handguard is cracked and needs replaced. Overall it's in excellent mechanical shape with good compression. I'm going to put a K&N filter on it.

I think these are incredible saws but I don't hold them in as high regard as their older Pioneer bretheren... it's the colour or something. Or maybe it's just their rarity.

Brendon.
P.S. welcome back Jerry, hope you had a great vacation!

Pro 655

I just changed the exhaust gasket, poured in fresh fuel and she came to life on the fifth pull. Idles perfectly and screams with throttle. What a beast. I hope I didn't wake up the neighbors.

A tidbit of info: the Pro 655 model came with a boost port cylinder. I'm thinking the name 655BP on the later models just helped to market their idea. They sold a pile of them either way.

Another nice find, Brendon! Thats a lot of bars Artie! Do you have an extra set of 475203, you would sell? Also what number do you recommend for a P51 with a chain brake? One saw will have a brake, the other will not.

gas-oil mix

I know this may open a can of worms, but what gas/oil mixture would you guys recommend in the P50. The original owners manual I have for this saw says to run 16:1. This seems a little rich. With todays high tech fuels-oils could I run a lighter mix. Synthetic or standard oil??

p50 mix

I run 40:1 with Stihl oil. I use avgas, but a 40:1 mix of regular gas to any quality two-stroke is good. If you run 16:1 with modern oils, you get some serious carbon buildup on your piston top, exhaust port and muffler screen. You'll also be thinking you're inside Cheech & Chong's van with all that smoke.

Real nice looking BP 655 you found there, I had the pleasure of owning and operating one for a couple of years, they were not a bad saw at all with plenty of torque. Thanks for the welcome back and I did have an awesome trip, good weather and spectacular sights followed us from start to finish along with meeting some very nice people along the way.

Sorry Arrowhead, all I have extras of right now are the half wrap ones. If you're not concerned with cutting low stumps, go with the P62 or 655 handles, they are the widest, and make it easier to take the clutch cover off. I had a older handle I believe either a 475724 or 475447 on my P51 with chain brake and the only way I could get the cover off was to first pull it back enough to get the bar & chain out & then I had clearance to get the cover out from behind the handle. I wound up replacing the clutch cover with a non chain brake "chicken basket" type, which would have been more common out here anyways.

Nice 655, propliner. I've had three 655s none of them with a "BP" although they all had boost ports. They did however change the piston design from a regular piston to one with a open side or channel that coincided with the boost port and made it work better. I have a Service Bulletin that gives part #s and pictures of the differences, but have never actually seen the older style of piston.

Right now I have two 655s one of which I've installed a set of 2-stage reeds on. I haven't had a chance to compare them yet but I'm curious if there will be a difference.
